Dear Sea King Families,
Our first week of AP testing has gone smoothly with hundreds of exams already completed! Our students are reporting feeling positive and well-prepared for their exams. This is an amazing credit to the hard work of both our students and teachers! Let's continue to encourage our kids to get enough sleep, eat healthy meals, stay active, and reach out for help if they are feeling stressed. We are so proud of our AP kids and their dedication to success on their culminating exams!
When I am walking around campus, attending events and even scrolling through this update, I am so amazed by our Sea King students and all that they accomplish. Our students are a wonderful representation of our school community. I am so grateful for the opportunity to watch our kids experience success, recover gracefully from failure, and continue to show up even when things are tough. Thank you to our incredible faculty, staff, students, and families for being a part of this Sea King community. I hope you are having a relaxing Sunday and we will see you tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Dr. Trista Ramirez
Principal

Naomi Kao Advances in 2023 Presidential Scholars Competition
Palos Verdes High School is proud to congratulate senior Naomi Kao on being selected as a semifinalist for the 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars competition!
This is a tremendous honor as all graduating high school seniors who are either U.S. citizens or are legal permanent U.S. residents are considered. For a student to be selected as a semi-finalist, they must have scored exceptionally well on either the SAT or the ACT college admission test during the window that began in August, 2019 and ran through October, 2022. Students with high scores on one of these tests are automatically considered for participation in the competition. The U.S. Department of Education then looks at test scores in each of the states and jurisdictions to select the top performers in the competition. Finalists will be announced in June.
Please congratulate Naomi Kao on her amazing honor and academic achievement!
Way to go, Naomi! Sea King nation is proud of you!

Attention PVHS Students:
Take the One Hill Project Survey!
| |
|
One Hill Project is a student-led organization comprised of PVHS and Peninsula High students and led by our student school board members. The organization is looking to gather input from all students regarding mental health, academics, activities, school involvement, and sustainability of facilities. It is a survey by students for students. The One Hill Project wants to elevate the students' voices with the school board and gather as much feedback as possible regarding these topics.
The survey only takes about 4 minutes and is completely anonymous. These survey results will be shared with the Board of Education with the hope of enhancing their understanding of what is impacting high school students and providing them with student perspectives when they are making policy decisions. Please use the link below to have your voice heard on these issues. The survey will also be posted on the homepage of our school’s website. You will have until May 13th to complete the survey.

State and AP Testing in April and May
The testing season is upon us! Our Juniors will be participating in state testing in Science, English, and Math and our AP students of all grades will participate in their subject area AP tests. The full testing schedule is below for your reference.
| | |
The State of California assesses schools by testing 11th-grade students in Science, English, and Math. A school's scores on these tests are a major factor in determining a school's ranking, which some colleges look at when they are considering students for admission. Thus, a strong performance on the SBAC ELA, Math, and CAST Tests is absolutely pivotal in keeping our California school ranking strong and giving our students the best chance with admission at the top colleges and universities.
Please join PVHS Staff in encouraging our students to prepare and do their best on these upcoming tests and to Go for the Green, the highest school ranking a school can achieve on the CAASPP tests.
For more information about the exam: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca
For information on opting out of state tests for 11th-grade students,
please contact our associate principal, Mr. Hill at hilld@pvpusd.net.
