NAMEPA NEWSLETTER
THE LATEST IN EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
This year the MARPOL: Operation Compliance Program was implemented in ports in North Carolina and the Port of New York/New Jersey to enhance seafarer knowledge of environmental regulations and their importance. All the ports have provided great feedback and we hope to expand the program to other ports.
PARTNERSHIP WITH
BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS
NAMEPA continued our work with the local Boys and Girls Clubs of Connecticut. NAMEPA and these clubs frequently partner for beach cleanups. Above is a photo of the 51 pounds of trash off our local beaches and our enthusiastic volunteers from the Keystone and Torch clubs at the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club!
NAMEPA is currently adapting the Adopt a Ship program in North America to more successfully connect students and seafarers, while raising awareness on the importance seafarers and the maritime community have on our everyday lives. We look forward to its launch later in 2019. Click here for more information and how to get involved!
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH EVENTS

Our Education and Outreach Director, Nina, served on the planning boards for the Long Island Sound Educator's Conference and the Ocean Literacy Summit with the New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative where she was joined by Megan, a NAMEPA Chapter President! At these conferences, NAMEPA had an incredible opportunity to connect with fellow educators and conservation groups and distribute our educational resources.
NAMEPA CHAPTERS
We are excited to announce that this year NAMEPA gained 3 new chapters at UNC Wilmington, the Webb Institute, and Berwick Academy. All of our chapters have done an outstanding job engaging their peers in marine sciences educational programs and beach clean-ups.

WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK!
Our education materials are available for download on our website. Based on the 2018 survey responses for our educational materials, over 8,000 students of all ages have been reached by their lessons and have inspired them to help improve their communities and how they treat the ocean. 100% of educators said they would use our resources again. We look forward to inspiring more students to take action for the marine environment in 2019!

Please send photos of NAMEPA's resources in the field, download our materials, and fill out our feedback survey.
