Pufferfish (
Tetraodontidae
)
The pufferfish, also known as blow fish, is a species that is notoriously known for their slow-moving, clumsy style of swimming that makes them vulnerable to predators. In lieu of escape, they use their highly elastic stomachs to ingest large amounts of water or even air if necessary to turn themselves into a virtually inedible ball several times their normal size. Most species contain tetrodotoxin, a substance that makes them deadly for human consumption. Astonishingly enough, countries like Korea, China, and Japan consider them to be a delicacy. Only highly-trained, licensed chefs are allowed to serve them safely.
