Sean Pica Appointed to Founding Board of National Alliance

Hudson Link Executive Director Sean Pica has been chosen to serve on the Founding Board of Directors for the newly formed Alliance for Higher Education in Prison.

The Alliance's mission is  to support the expansion of quality higher education in prison, empower students in prison and after release, and shape public discussion about education and incarceration. The formation of the founding board comes after a year of planning and visioning, including a Strategic Partners Workshop that Hudson Link hosted at Sing Sing Correctional Facility.

Sean is joined on the board by longtime advocates and supporters of higher education in prison representing states across the country.

Hudson Link is honored to be a part of this historic partnership and sends our best wishes to the Alliance for Higher Education in Prison for the fulfillment of its important mission.

New Computer Lab for Hudson Link Students at Sullivan C.F.

Hudson Link is excited to announce the installation of a brand new computer lab at Sullivan Correctional Facility, home to the largest of our six college programs.

Academic Coordinator Mary Donnelly, Alumni Coordinator Todd Young, and Program Director Dr. Samuel Arroyo helped Sullivan's Education Supervisor set up and install the new machines. The lab will undergo a test run by the Hudson Link Student Advisory Committee before it is officially opened to the larger student population.

Thanks to the staff at Sullivan C.F. and to our Student Advisory Committee for making the installation a success!
#CollegeNotPrison

The Institute for Higher Education Policy announced this month its new social media and public awareness campaign #CollegeNotPrison, an initiative designed to educate policymakers, campus leaders, and the public about the barriers faced by justice-involved youth who wish to pursue higher education.

"Higher education is a proven stepping stone for people to ascend from the confines of poverty to the economic security of the middle class," said President Dr. Michelle Asha Cooper in an IHEP press release on the campaign. "Justice-involved men and women are no different."

#CollegeNotPrison is the latest in a long tradition of work IHEP has done on postsecondary education for currently and formerly incarcerated people. For more information on this exciting project, visit their website.

One of Our Friends Needs Our Help!

Theo Harris

Hudson Link friend Theo Harris has been diagnosed with liver cancer, which has metastasized into his bones. A liver transplant is no longer an option, his medical bills are mounting, and he is unable to work due to his illness.

We are asking for your help to support Theo and his wife, Phyllis, who has faithfully stood by him all these years.  This is a couple who is rich (and richly) in love but limited in dollars and cents. Theo's story is an inspiration to us all, as he truly went from a position of being "the least of these" to a man devoted to helping others change their lives as well.

Theo needs all of our love, support and outreach at this time. Please do whatever you can to assist.
