Volunteer Spotlight:

Dave and Phyllis Moore

Dave grew up coming to Kingswood and was a young volunteer.  He was four years old when he rode in an outhouse in the pouring rain for its grand installation.  Phyllis, a Hancock native, began camping here in 1978 when she married Dave.  They share a favorite spot, Far Overlook, but Phyllis notes the trees are getting tall and the view of the Farmhouse is no longer unobstructed.  For Phyllis, it's now the view from the dam looking down to the pond. They both love the calmness and peacefulness found around camp and sharing the traditions with the next generation.

Reminders

Many of you are so familiar with Kingswood and you’re eager to start your vacation.  But  please stop at the Farmhouse prior to going to your site. We need everyone to sign in with the names of the people in their group so we can make a full accounting for all campers in case of an emergency.

It’s been a wet summer so far.  The ground is saturated.  Please park only in the two areas designated by the bright orange signs at each site.  That’s where the gravel has been laid to support the weight of a car.  Remember, only two vehicles can be at a site.

Firewood Caution

What might be hiding in the firewood you bring to camp?  Eggs, larvae, spores, adult insects, or even seeds of invasive plants could be in the wood you transport from your property. By NYS law you cannot move firewood more than 50 linear miles within New York State.  Please help us protect our property by using local wood for your campfire.  You can buy your firewood in the parking lot. There are saws to borrow at the barn and a sawbuck at each site.

Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry

For many of the year-round residents, Hancock can be a economically challenging place to live. Last year we provided multiple bags of groceries to the local food pantry to meet some of the food insecurity needs. We want to continue this effort.

Please bring a few canned goods or other dry goods that we can collectively donate to the Hancock community. There is a spot in the barn to make your donation

Scholarships and Mentorships

Do you or someone you know want to come to Kingswood this summer, but funding is an issue? We do offer financial support.
