Summer Highlights:

We had an incredible time learning, growing, and creating with our summer campers! Dancers learned a wide variety of styles, including Afro Beats, breakdancing, hip hop, acrobatics, ballet, modern, yoga, jazz, and creative movement. Our lucky hip hop campers learned graffiti with Maine-based graffiti artist Tim Clorius.

  • We had the pleasure of hosting some incredible guest teaching artists, including Josh Hilberman, Isiah "MoveLikeZay" Beasley, Sarah Beth Oppenheim, Emilia Bruno, and Allie James!

  • Congratulations to CBM founder, Sheila Bellefleur, who has completed her certification in Gyrokinesis. Join her for a special 7-week session on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-10:30 am at CBM (September 16-October 28). The cost is $70 for the 7-week session, or a card punch.

  • Vanessa Beyland served as Assistant Director and Movement Coordinator for OperaMaine's "Sweeney Todd" production at Merrill Auditorium.

  •  Rose Hutchins' Ballet Bloom presented "Essence"—a dynamic contemporary ballet created against all odds at the height of the 2020 pandemic by choreographer Rose Hutchins in collaboration with composer Allen Russell—made its long-awaited stage premiere in a one-night-only performance on August 21 at the Hill Arts Center.

  • Elizabeth Lau and Holly Taylor began their journey to becoming certified DanceAbility teachers with master instructor Michaela Knox of SparkDance, based in Brunswick, Maine.

  • Kate Marchessault was named an honoree at the Bates Dance Festival's BDFête for her significant contributions to the festival and the broader dance community in Maine. It was a fun evening of celebrating with the CBM/BDF community, followed by an incredible performance by Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane.

Stay tuned for our fall adult repertory class offerings!

Programs will begin in early October in preparation for our

Holiday Shows, which will be held on Saturday, December 20.

(Snow Date is Sunday, December 21)

Portland Youth Dance Auditions

Casco Bay Movers

Portland Youth Dance (PYD) is the resident youth company at Casco Bay Movers, offering pre-professional dance training to dedicated dancers ages 10-18 years. PYD has three main tracks: Company, which focuses on modern, jazz, and contemporary forms; Crew, which focuses on hip hop forms; and PYD 2, an exploratory group geared toward dancers 10-18. PYD was founded in 1998 as an alternative to competitive dance and is a 501(c)(3) organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors.
