LCLT to Present a Major Conservation and Capacity Building Project

The Lake County Land Trust (LCLT) will be presenting a grant project proposal titled "Lake County Land Trust Conservation, Restoration, and Stewardship Improvement and Capacity Building Project" to the Blue Ribbon Committee for the Rehabilitation of Clear Lake (BRC) on December 18, 2025. This grant project will provide up to $604,450 for about 3-5 years. It will allow the LCLT to grow our education and outreach programming, enrich recreation and cultural accessibility on current and future LCLT lands, and most importantly we will be able to increase our capacity to conserve lands through acquisition and high-priority restoration projects.

The 15-member Blue Ribbon Committee for the Rehabilitation of Clear Lake, created by Assembly Bill 707 (Aguiar-Curry, Ch. 842, Statutes of 2017) includes representatives from tribes, Lake County, UC Davis and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board. It also includes four members appointed by Lake County with expertise in agriculture, economics, environment and public water supplies.

The Committee has been given the important charge of making recommendations for rehabilitating Clear Lake, which is critical to Lake County’s economy, ecosystem, and heritage. To date the BRC has awarded over $20 million in state funds to support research, planning, and water quality projects around Clear Lake.

This project will be essential in growing the LCLT to ensure we can continue serving the land, waters, and community of Lake County in the best way possible - while helping to meet goals of the BRC and improving Clear Lake. Staff from LCLT serve on both the Blue Ribbon Committee SocioEconomic and Technical SubCommittees.

Please consider attending this BRC meeting to show your support for both the Lake County Land Trust and our grant project proposal. You can attend in person or by Zoom just make sure to show your support during the ‘public comment period’.

Meeting Details: The meeting will be held in person, with virtual options, Thursday December 18th, from 10AM - 1PM at Clearlake City Hall located at 14050 Olympic Dr, Clearlake, CA 95422. Zoom access is available at the link: https://csus.zoom.us/meeting/register/f7o5sGX7TqygjLd2Jq0fJg

Land Tending Days

at Rodman Preserve

Land Tending Volunteers have been busy! In June, California native bunch grass seeds were collected on a group walk at Rodman Preserve. We met in August to plant the seeds in 150 tubes and during the summer our intern Hallie Holmes planted an additional 50 tubes. Volunteers and staff watered and tended the seedlings over the next few months.

Species planted were Bromus Carinatus (California Brome), Elymus Elymoides (squirrel tail), Stipa Pulchra (purple needle grass) Danthonia (California Oat Grass) and Elymus Glaucus (bluewild rye).

Last month volunteers gathered to dig holes and transplant all the seedlings into the garden. Grasses were planted in groups of like grasses and each little seedling was marked. It is amazing to see such delicate little plants strive and thrive to live.

Land tending volunteers are meeting on December 7th to work on weeding and planting seeds. If you would like to be part of this endeavor to grow and tend the native interpretive garden at the Rodman Preserve please sign up by clicking the link below.
