The Season of Creation has begun.
It will last from September 1 until October 4. There is an urgency for all of us to take time to learn about its challenge this year and to participate. Let us join our world citizens to care for our common home.
Pope Francis has mapped out a plan for us which includes prayer and action. The plan incorporates three ways to participate.
First: we must transform our hearts.
This includes the renewal of our relationship with creation so that we no longer exploit it but cherish it as a sacred gift from our Creator.
Second: let us add to the flow of the mighty river by transforming our lifestyle.
With the help of God’s grace, let us adopt lifestyles marked by less waste and unnecessary consumption, especially when the processes of production are toxic and unsustainable.
Let us cooperate in God’s ongoing creation through positive choices making greater us of available products and services that are environmentally and socially responsible.
Third, for the mighty river to continue flowing we must transform the public policies that govern our societies and shape the lives of young people today and tomorrow.
Let us raise our voices to halt injustice toward the poor and our children.
In this season of Creation, as followers of Christ, let us work and pray that our common home will teem with life once again,” to renew the face of the earth.”
(Ps. 104: :30)
