Greetings From the Director
As an elementary student, our teacher assigned us the task of writing a poem about Thanksgiving. Having little talent in the poetry area I decided to write an acrostic poem using the word Thanksgivin g. ”T” is for turkey and good things to eat. “H” is for home and parents so sweet... As you can see, I was no budding Longfellow! However, this simple exercise did cause me to reflect on what I was truly grateful for. So many times we take our blessings for granted! At United Way we are aware of the challenges faced by many in our community and with the help of our donors and partner agencies we give these families and individuals help and hope in facing life’s struggles. Your kindness translates into thousands of services provided throughout the year! Thank you for your continued support for our work in Lee County. We count you among our greatest blessings. Happy Holidays! - Becky
Campaign Update
Campaign Spotlight:
Southern Union State Community College
Southern Union State Community College has set a goal of $5,000 for their campaign. Last year the Campaign raised $3,200. You may ask, how will SUSCC raise $5,000 this year? Well, Vertrina Grubbs and her amazing group of Ambassadors are thinking outside of the box! In addition to faculty and staff payroll deduction, the group is planning to educate and engage the students! In October the Ambassadors hosted a “Let’s Get Poppin’” event where they handed out free popcorn on the greenspace and collected donations and shared information about the United Way! In November the group will host a bake sale and finally in December they will be hosting a silent auction event. Congratulations to SUSCC on thinking outside the box, we can’t wait to see your final results! The funds raised through the United Way Campaign are used to impact our community through four focus areas: Education, Health, Crisis and Strengthening Families and the Community as a whole. Money raised in Lee County stays in our community to help those in need and provide HOPE to those that need it most.
2020 Campaign Loaned Executives
Loaned Executives are ambassadors of United Way. A Loaned Executive is a volunteer within the community that is the liaison between United Way and local businesses. Our campaign could not be as successful without Loaned Executives, and we are grateful for the hard work they have already put in for this campaign.
