William P. Atkins J.D. '92 Named 2025 Lawyer of the Year by the Bar Association of the District of Columbia.
UBalt Law is proud to announce that William P. Atkins, Class of 1992, has been named the 2025 Lawyer of the Year by the Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC). Established more than 150 years ago, the BADC is the nation’s third-oldest bar association, and its Lawyer of the Year award is the organization’s highest honor.

Luann Edwards, J.D. '00, has been appointed Assistant Dean for the Law Career Development Office (LCDO).
Assistant Dean Edwards brings a steadfast student-centered approach, extensive knowledge of UBalt Law and LCDO operations, and strong relationships across the Maryland legal community. In her new capacity, she will continue to monitor trends in legal employment, strengthen and engage our alumni network, and pursue partnerships that expand opportunities for our students and graduates.

Associate Dean for Administration Joy Gaslevic, J.D. '99 (Pictured, left), has been awarded the University of Baltimore Staff Recognition Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Mission of the University. Gaslevic’s influence reaches every corner of UBalt Law. Colleagues across campus describe her as a trusted partner and a thoughtful problem-solver whose steady leadership and deep commitment to the law school drive meaningful progress.
Aubrey Edwards-Luce (Pictured, right), Executive Director of the Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children, and the Courts (CFCC), has been honored with the Staff Award for Extraordinary Public Service to UBalt and the Greater Community. Edwards-Luce’s work extends far beyond campus, influencing children, families, and communities throughout Baltimore and Maryland. She is widely recognized for her strategic vision, compassion, and ability to bring together diverse stakeholders to advance equity and justice.

Liz Field joins UBalt Law as Director of External Relations, Communications & Marketing. In this role, Liz will lead UBalt Law’s External Relations team and provide strategic leadership for communications, marketing, alumni and partner relations, and web and technical support services.
Liz holds a wealth of experience in higher education and legal communications. She has served in similar leadership roles at both The George Washington University Law School and Villanova University, where she provided strategic counsel on reputational, academic, operational, crisis, and social issues. During her 12 years at GW Law, Liz supported the launch, growth, and visibility of many institutes and centers. She also created the Legal Communicators Media Conference (LCMC), a national gathering of legal communications professionals, journalists, and academic leaders.

Volunteer to serve as a Moot Court Judge for the Student Trial Advocacy Competition sponsored by the American Association for Justice (AAJ).
UBalt Law will co-host a regional mock trial competition with Maryland Law at the Anne Arundel Circuit Courthouse.
This regional competition brings together student advocates at schools stretching from Florida to Delaware. Students will prepare for a simulated civil trial that will include housekeeping, opening statements, closing arguments, and examinations of 2 witnesses per side. Two regional champions will be determined by the competition, and those two teams will advance to the national competition in New Orleans at the end of March 2026. Learn more about STAC.
Dates & Times:
- Friday, March 3, 3026, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
- Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Saturday, March 4, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The competition will take place at the Anne Arundel Circuit Court in Annapolis. Judges will evaluate and score student competition rounds. While no prior mock trial experience is necessary, volunteers must have earned a J.D. Contact Kris Vicencio with questions.

Join us on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 12:00. p.m. for a screening and panel talk of the 2024 Oscar-nominated and Palme d'Or-winning short film, "The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent."
The Rule of Law Series is a monthly program led by UBalt Law faculty that explores foundational principles, historical perspectives, and contemporary issues shaping the rule of law. Additional events are planned for the Spring 2026 semester!
