Affordability is a priority for General Assembly, and we continually explore options to make attendance accessible to everyone. As part of this effort, we conducted a comprehensive search for lower-cost dormitory housing at colleges and universities near Baltimore.
Unfortunately, the available dormitory options are located more than 40 minutes away from the Baltimore Convention Center. This significant travel time poses logistical challenges, including delays and added stress, which could negatively impact the GA experience.
Last week, we surveyed newsletter recipients with the question:
"If the most affordable lodging option for General Assembly requires public transportation, what is the maximum travel time by transit you’d consider acceptable?"
Here’s what you told us:
- Close proximity to the Convention Center only: 33%
- 10–15 minutes: 27.8%
- 16–30 minutes: 33.5%
- 30–45 minutes: 5.3%
- Up to an hour or more away: 0.5%
With the majority of responses indicating a preference for housing within 30 minutes or closer, and none of the available dormitory options meeting this criterion, we have made the difficult decision to eliminate the dormitory lodging option for GA 2025. We remain committed to making GA accessible and affordable and will continue to share updates about other lodging and cost-saving opportunities. Thank you for your input!
