AS THIS YEAR DRAWS TO A CLOSE

we appeal to your generosity and sense of one-ness, which has been made clear as never before in the history of mankind, to give with a compassionate heart and an open mind to the women and children who are Barakat program participants; to their families and communities who are impacted by every individual in their midst who gets an education.
Since Barakat started work in 1994, first in Pakistan and then Afghanistan, we have educated 71,000 students (boys, girls and women) right through 2019.

As of this year, the six schools in Pakistan enrolled 1,383 students with 673 girls and 710 boys, of which 343 girls are at the Girls’ Evening School program.

In Afghanistan the local Turkmen businessmen who are from Faryab and Jowzjan provinces (where the two Barakat schools are located) are beginning to pick up the job of monitoring and funding of the Barakat schools.

This ensures one of Barakat’s long-term objectives: That of involving the local community in the continued operation of both Barakat Afghanistan schools.
2020 remains a year that defies our collective imagination and is going to leave us all scarred. So that we may recover and move forward with greater wisdom into the future, we must now help each other by holding hands together in this time of our great distress.

Barakat school children have felt this time keenly - watching their families suffer and worry about health and livelihood; distancing from all that could be deemed part of a normal childhood: Friends, school, libraries, games and celebrations that come with the turn of the seasons.

The girls and women whose only outlet (outside of their close and closed family circle) is at Barakat's Evening Schools have felt the loss even more deeply.

100% of your donations go to Barakat Programs abroad.
