December 2025

Janet Rossant, Gairdner President and Scientific Director

Dear Friends,

As we bring 2025 to a close, I want to reflect on what has been an exceptional year for the Gairdner Foundation. At a time when trust in science and scientific collaboration is under strain, our community came together to champion excellence, share ideas and highlight the vital role of research in improving health and wellbeing around the world.

Gairdner Science Week was a standout moment — a week filled with thoughtful dialogue, inspiring student engagement and remarkable stories from our laureates, whose groundbreaking discoveries continue to shape global health and scientific innovation. Across Canada and internationally, we saw students asking big questions, researchers connecting across borders and the public engaging deeply with science in new and meaningful ways.

In 2025, we expanded programming that promotes collaboration, elevates diverse voices and inspires the next generation of scientific leaders. The engagement of our community throughout the year reinforces the significance of honouring exceptional achievement. And as we look ahead, we are already hard at work selecting the 2026 Canada Gairdner Award laureates — a process that continues to highlight the very best of global biomedical research.

Thank you for being part of the Gairdner community and for your ongoing commitment to supporting science. We invite you to consider a year-end contribution that will help us carry this important work forward.

Wishing you a peaceful holiday season and a healthy start to the new year.

Best regards,

Janet Rossant
