Megan Eddings

Accel Lifestyle & Accel Unite

Founder, CEO

HCC Business Plan Competition

2018 Winner - $12,000

Recurring BPC Alumni Circle Sponsor

2023 Bronze Sponsor

We've shared her alumni success story before and now bring you an update as we also thank Megan for coming back yet again to sponsor the HCC Business Plan Competition.

As a powerful mini recap, since winning the HCC Business Plan Competition in 2018, Megan has grown Accel Lifestyle to exceed $2.5 Million in revenues!  Her “elevated anti-stink wear” line of clothing evolved into pandemic pivots using the bacteria resistant material she invented to produce face masks. That led to her winning contracts with the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, U.S. Navy SEALs and hospitals such as Houston Methodist in the Medical Center.  All of this has occurred with her funding the business through self-funding, pitch competitions and friends & family!

Accel Unite - Her pandemic pivots have also led her to use the bacteria resistant material she invented to identify and respond to a market opportunity to create a Reusable Isolation Gown for hospitals. She launched Accel Unite in late 2021. Accel Unite’s patent-pending, sustainable gown increases protection, reduces costs, and maintains reliable supply chain, while helping save the environment.

Website: https://www.accelunite.com/

Intro Video: https://youtu.be/9XN4b78W6AA

She had a great 2022 as well as she continues to pursue her growth plan.

  1. Governor Abbott’s Commission for Women: 1st Place in Regionals
  2. WBENC (National Woman-Owned Business Competition): 1st Place in Regionals
  3. Inked Deal with Siemens Medical (Master Reseller Agreement).
  4. She was also among 5 finalists chosen for the Houston Innovation Award by Houston Exponential and Innovation Map's woman-owned businesses competition
  5. On November 3, Megan received an Impact Award for philanthropy at The Ion.
  6. November 16, 2022 - Pitching Revolutionary Isolation Gown, Accel Unite’s Megan Eddings Wins Top Honors and $20,000 at Prestigious National Competition “Innovate with WBENC” in Washington, DC -   Emerging from an impressive group of more than 500 talented women business owners, Accel Unite’s founder and CEO Megan Eddings was named the winner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council's 2022 WBENC Pitch Competition.

We asked Megan why she entered the HCC Business Plan Competition and what she gained from it. She responded as follows: "Everything! From what an LLC is to how to raise money. I was a chemist and sales person, but didn't know anything about starting a business. How to write a business plan; that it's not just a one time thing, you have to keep evolving it. I've updated my plan 10 times since then pursuing new ways of growing. The most important thing was being around other entrepreneurs. Being with other entrepreneurs going through the same things was so encouraging." Megan stays involved at HCC and taps into resources, opportunities and connections throughout the Houston entrepreneurial eco-system and nationally to strategically secure funding and achieve her business goals, while also giving back along the way.

We thank Megan for her recurring sponsorship of the HCC Business Plan competition. Thanks also for speaking at our competition related events to give entrepreneurs encouragement and tips about how give effective pitches!

Megan is currently experiencing great opportunities coming in for both Accel Lifestyle and Accel Unite as big companies are interested in licensing her technology. Given these new growth opportunities, she is now pursuing her first round of seed funding for both companies! We wish her the best in her efforts in 2023!

Landi Spearman

Organized Shift

Founder, CEO

HCC Business Plan Competition 2015 Graduate

2023 HCC BPC Circle Alumni Sponsor

Brief Business Description - In the face of rapid-fire change and monumental shifts, there’s an increased demand on leaders. Organized SHIFT is a data-driven change consultancy that harnesses the power of data to help leaders to increase the speed and quality of decision making, under stress. Our proprietary SHIFT approach, utilizes real-time data insights, proven change methodology and the latest science to help leaders and teams to optimize change.

When founder Landi Spearman entered our competition, she’d launched Destination 4 Relocation LLC, a relocation concierge business designed to reduce the time, cost and negative impact of moving. Landi graduated from the HCC Business Plan Competition in June of 2015 and describes her participation as a launch pad for growth, structure and community.

She was later nominated by HCC for the national student entrepreneur award from the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship. Upon winning the award, Landi recalls being inspired to expand upon what she learned from the competition to help leaders better transform change into opportunity.

Following the 2017 Super Bowl and Hurricane Harvey, Landi shifted her business model from moving boxes, to moving mindsets. Integrating her Behavioral and Data Science background with change tools to help organizations to SHIFT faster in the face of complex modern-day change, in 2019, Landi rebranded her company to Organized SHIFT. Leveraging her lived experience growing up in eight family owned businesses, operating across four generations, today Landi Spearman, is celebrated for breaking the glass ceiling for minorities and women in technology and innovation.

Organized SHIFT is on a mission to equip leaders who perform better under stress. A certified minority and women-owned firm, Organized SHIFT offers Strategy, Change Leadership Development, Executive and Team Coaching, and DEI Consulting services. An industry agnostic firm, Organized SHIFT has a proven history of preparing 1500+ leaders of industry titans like Salesforce, Comcast and CenterPoint Energy to harness the power of data and diversity in the modern-day workplace. Website: https://www.organizedshift.com/

Although the pandemic presented more challenges to overcome, in 2020, Landi received three prestigious awards from the Houston Business Journal, the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council and Innovation Map. Recently named a 2022 Woman of Impact, Landi has become an accomplished national speaker, a leader in the Houston entrepreneurial ecosystem and trusted advisor to local clients like The Ion and the Greater Houston Partnership. Landi is excited about 2023 as her team prepares to release a podcast in Q1 and add gamified, multisensory tech products to its offerings, designed to help companies reduce the “Cost of the Undeveloped Leader.”

We congratulate Landi on the impressive evolution of her business and on her accomplishments! Thank you too Landi and Organized Shift for your BPC Alumni Circle Sponsorship of our 2023 HCC Business Plan Competition!

Permit Us Now

Founder, CEO

HCC Business Plan Competition

Graduate 2016

HCC Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Graduate Cohort 9

Recurring BPC Alumni Circle Sponsor

Bronze Sponsor-2023 HCC Business Plan Competition

Brief Description - Permit Us Now is a building permit expediting company serving commercial & government clients throughout Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio, and now in Jacksonville, Florida.

When Helen entered our competition she'd launched and grown Bradlink, LLC and was continuing to do so, bolstered by her experience in the HCC Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.

Helen also had her sights set on developing her idea to launch a new venture, Permit Us Now. She knew there was no guarantee that a new company would do well unless she treated that new company (Permit Us Now) as well as her first company. She got into the HCC Business Plan Competition to further develop her plan to launch, get great structured training and advising while doing so and to stay accountable working alongside like-minded entrepreneurs. Helen didn't win prize money but she launched Permit Us Now the summer after she graduated from the 2016 competition. She now has offices in four cities, with another on the way! Website: https://permitusnow.com/

We are touched and grateful that Helen has been a recurring BPC Alumni Circle Sponsor for our competition since 2017. She has served as speaker at our opening reception and closing awards ceremony and a competition judge. For 2023, she has not only committed to sponsoring us again, but she has also raised her sponsorship to the Bronze level. Thank you Helen from our hearts to yours!

Helen gives back to the community in many ways. For instance, she recently completed her six-year term as State of Texas Commissioner with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. For More
