Seasons of Competition Update

The Council of Presidents Executive Committee met this morning and voted to remove the Seasons of Competition/50% rule that was originally passed in August 2020. This means that fall and winter student-athletes will not be charged a season of competition for the 2020-21 academic year.

This member-led decision was based on a survey of conferences and reflects the majority feedback. Of the 19 conferences that responded, 12 were in favor of removing the 50% rule, 4 were in favor of keeping the 50% rule, and 3 were divided in their position.

Based on a recommendation from the National Eligibility Committee and consistent with an earlier decision related to fall terms, the executive committee also voted unanimously to not count terms of attendance toward the NAIA limit of 10 semesters or 15 quarters for the rest of the 2020-21 academic year.
