CITY COUNCIL TO CONFIRM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
The Community and Economic Development Department works to leverage the City's resources, community partnerships and in-house expertise to drive economic growth and improve life for residents in Tacoma.

Tonight City Council will vote to appoint Jeff Robinson as the new Director of Community and Economic Development. Robinson is currently the Director of Community and Economic Development for the City of Sea Tac.

CHAMBER ANNOUNCES NEW TACOMA NOMINEES
The New Tacoma Awards recognize business organizations and individuals making outstanding contributions to the revitalization of downtown Tacoma. Award categories include the Schoenfeld Award, recognizing retailers or restaurateurs, and the Ghilarducci Award recognizing new development, renovation, or beautification.

SEATTLE CITY COUNCIL TO VOTE ON HEAD TAX REPEAL
Seattle City Council will consider a repeal of the unpopular "head tax," which was passed unanimously less than a month ago.

The tax would cost employers approximately 14 cents per employee, per hour worked, amounting to about $275 per full-time employee each year. The tax applies to businesses grossing more than $20 million in annual revenue and begins in January 2019.

METRO PARKS ANNOUNCES AQUARIUM OPEN DATE
On Monday, Metro Parks Tacoma Announced that September 7th will be the day the public can "sea" the long-anticipated Pacific Seas Aquarium at Point Defiance Zoo.

The new aquarium is the largest capital project in the zoo’s 113-year history. In addition, it’s just one piece of the larger Metro Parks Tacoma Destination Point Defiance initiative, which is transforming Tacoma’s largest park into an even greater attraction with more engaging spaces for visitors to play, learn and grow
