Breakfast on the Beach

There’s something beautifully ordinary about one of the resurrection stories.

The disciples are fishing,

not succeeding,

not sure what comes next.

And then, Jesus shows up on the shore.

People tend to fall into two distinct groups: beach people or mountain people. Well, except Jesus, he was both.

So maybe most people.

Regardless, I am a beach person. The sound of the water, the constant movement of the tides, the small crabs and birds and fish, the vastness. It’s a place that grounds me, connects me to God and the earth. A place that reminds me of how small I am in the expanse of the universe.

When Jesus shows up on the beach, it feels so natural to me. And when he arrives, he comes with all of his usual gifts.

Not with a sermon,

not with a grand declaration,

but with breakfast.

Bread. Fish. Fire.

It’s such a small moment, and yet it holds something profound: resurrection doesn’t only meet us in the extraordinary. It meets us in the everyday rhythms of being human.

There are seasons when faith feels clear and alive,

and there are seasons when we go back to what we know,

doing our work, tending our lives, wondering what it all means now.

And still, Christ meets us there,

on the shorelines of our routines,

in the middle of our unfinished questions,

in the spaces where we are simply trying again.

Maybe this is part of the good news: you don’t have to be in a perfect place to encounter God.

You just have to be present.

This week, pay attention to the “breakfast moments,”

the small, grounding, sustaining places where you are met

with exactly what you need for the next step.

Peace,

What if the sermon isn’t the end of the conversation—but the beginning?

Each week, we gather, we listen, we pray… and then we go. But if we’re honest, the scripture, the sermon, even the prayers don’t always settle neatly. Something lingers. A phrase stays with us. A question quietly follows us home. Something stirs—comfort, resistance, curiosity, even confusion.

And here’s the truth: no two people hear the same sermon in exactly the same way.

One person hears hope.

Another hears challenge.

Someone else hears a question they didn’t know they were carrying.

All of it matters.

This spring, we’re creating space for that holy noticing.

Tell Me More… Listening for What Lingers is a Wednesday night gathering where we come back to Sunday’s worship—not to analyze it or debate it, but to listen more deeply. Together, we’ll name what stayed with us, ask the questions that didn’t get answered, and gently wonder where God might be leading us next.

You don’t need to have the “right” insight or the perfect words. You don’t need to be a teacher or a theologian. You simply need to come with a willingness to notice… and to share.

Because sometimes the Spirit speaks not just in what was said—

but in what stays.

Come. Pull up a chair.

And tell us more.
