Wondering and Wandering: Still Showing Up
Easter Sunday has come and gone. All the memes about the people who come to worship two times a year can be put back on the shelf until Christmas. Honestly, I despise them. After all, how does it make someone feel when they see those and think, Oh, that’s me…? Shouldn’t we instead say, It was so great to see you, and I hope to see you again soon? Remove the pressure.
I think that is one of the places we see Jesus in the ongoing resurrection accounts. Rather than holding expectations about how, when, or where everyone shows up, he goes to them. He meets them where and how they are. This is truly one of my favorite parts of the story of Jesus.
He keeps showing up.
Not once. Not in a grand, singular moment that settles everything.
But again. And again. And again.
Behind locked doors.
Along the road.
At the shoreline.
In the middle of ordinary moments.
Which makes me wonder…
How often are we looking for one big, undeniable experience, when God seems to prefer a pattern of steady presence?
The disciples did not move from confusion to clarity overnight. They moved from confusion to encounter, to confusion again, to encounter again.
And maybe that is the rhythm of faith.
Not certainty, but continued showing up, from God, and from us.
So this week, instead of asking,
Do I fully understand this?
Maybe we ask,
Where is Christ showing up…again?
In a conversation that meets us right where we are.
In a moment of courage we did not expect.
In a quiet sense that we are not alone.
Resurrection is not a one-time event to believe.
It is a presence to notice.
And sometimes, the holiest thing we can do is simply stay open long enough to see it again.
Peace,
Pastor Carrie

Joining Sunday at 2b
Sunday, April 12 | 9:30a | Worship Hall
This upcoming Sunday, April 12, is our next Joining Sunday. If you’ve been wondering whether Second B might be part of your story, this is an invitation to step forward—alongside others who are wondering and choosing, just like you. There is no rush here. After all, you can join at any time! We just want to offer a chance to feel less spotlighted and more in community. We’ll mark the moment together, welcoming you not as individuals on display, but as companions finding your way into a shared life.
There is no pressure to arrive fully certain. Joining a church is not about getting everything in order—it’s about paying attention to where God is already at work in you, and where you feel drawn to grow, to serve, and to belong. If you sense a quiet “yes” rising, here are a few simple ways to begin.
A short questionnaire to help us begin to know you: https://forms.gle/BsymcV4dXLYhWDDh9
(Please complete one per person joining.)
A new member card:
https://secondb.org/join/
(One for each household member.)
And if you’d rather take a little more time, ask questions, or simply sit with the decision, that’s more than okay. I would love to talk with you whenever you’re ready. It is a gift to receive new stories into this community—and I look forward to hearing yours.

New Wednesday Night Series
Wednesday, April 8, 22, 29 | 5:15p Dinner | 6:00p Classes | Grand Hall
What if the sermon isn’t the end of the conversation—but the beginning?
Each week, we gather, we listen, we pray… and then we go. But if we’re honest, the scripture, the sermon, even the prayers don’t always settle neatly. Something lingers. A phrase stays with us. A question quietly follows us home. Something stirs—comfort, resistance, curiosity, even confusion.
And here’s the truth: no two people hear the same sermon in exactly the same way.
One person hears hope.
Another hears challenge.
Someone else hears a question they didn’t know they were carrying.
All of it matters.
This spring, we’re creating space for that holy noticing.
Tell Me More… Listening for What Lingers is a Wednesday night gathering where we come back to Sunday’s worship—not to analyze it or debate it, but to listen more deeply. Together, we’ll name what stayed with us, ask the questions that didn’t get answered, and gently wonder where God might be leading us next.
You don’t need to have the “right” insight or the perfect words. You don’t need to be a teacher or a theologian. You simply need to come with a willingness to notice… and to share.
Because sometimes the Spirit speaks not just in what was said—
but in what stays.
Come. Pull up a chair.
And tell us more.
