Associate Pastor of Children and Families

One of the things we're most excited about this summer is all the ways our students will have opportunities to connect, grow, and just have fun together. We have so many great things happening in 2B Youth, and we can’t wait to see what this summer brings.

Don’t forget—we also have Youth Ministry activities on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM all summer long. And trust us, there’s even more summer fun still to come. We're so excited for all that’s ahead and hope your family will be part of it with us!

Operations Corner

I was thinking this morning about how much I want to thank each of you for your continued faithful tithes and faith in me. Your tithes do so much to support the operations here at 2B. With those thoughts in mind, I want to periodically let y'all know what we have been doing around 2B to both preserve and improve our building, grounds, IT infrastructure, and much more.

On the IT front, I have installed additional security cameras around our building and grounds, bringing the total to over 30. These give me the ability to keep an eye on our over 7 acres of land and almost 60,000 square feet of building. I have also upgraded several pieces of Wi-Fi equipment and a couple of computers and added 7 iPads for use during the weekly Food Bank Distribution and in the office. I am also constantly working to keep our website and YouTube channel updated and relevant, and have been digitizing past sermons and services that I am slowly bringing to our SoundCloud channel for all to look back and enjoy.

Around the grounds, we have been hard at work replacing countless shrubs and trees we lost over the past few years due to extreme cold and last year's severe thunderstorm. At last count, we have added about 14 new trees, over 30 new shrubs, several rose bushes, flower bulbs, and ground cover. I do have much more planned through the rest of this year and next year. There is much more that we have done and are doing behind the scenes to both preserve and enhance the beauty and legacy of our church, so that Second B can continue for the next 68 years!

If you would like to make a one-time or recurring tithe to further my Operations ministry, visit secondb.org/give or Venmo @secondbaptistlbk and note for Building/Grounds. Thank y'all so very much for your continued support of my team and me. God Bless.

MAIN EVENT FAMILY NIGHT

2B Summer Nights

One of the things Krystal is most excited about this summer is creating more space for our families to just be together—laughing, playing, and building relationships in a way that fits real life. That’s where 2B Summer Nights comes in.

Throughout the summer, we’ll be hosting a series of evening events designed especially for families. These are simple and fun opportunities to connect and make some really good memories together. No pressure, just presence.

And we’re kicking it off with a crowd favorite.

📍Main Event Lubbock

📅Tuesday, June 23 at 5:30 PM.

💰$10 per person (with a $30 max per family) includes:

  • 4 hours of bowling, laser tag, and billiards
  • An arcade card with 2 hours of game time
  • 2 slices of pizza
  • A refillable soft drink

It’s one of those nights where you can just show up and enjoy.

A quick note: this is a family event, so parents will need to attend with their kids (but honestly, that just means you get to play too).

Registration is open now and will close on June 19th, so be sure to sign up soon!

Because sometimes the best way to build belonging in the church is by having fun side by side.

Stewardship Spotlight:

Did You Know?

Did you know you can gift a life insurance policy you currently own to the church and receive a charitable tax deduction for the fair market value of the policy? (or the cost basis if less) Also if you elect to make future payments on that gifted policy, those premium payments will also be tax deductible when made.

Talk to your financial advisor or contact Tracy in our office for more information.

Don't Miss Out: Low Vision Group

The Low Vision Group meets at Second Baptist once a month on Wednesdays at 10:30am. This group helps support people with vision impairments. What once started out as support group of 2 has now grown to have about 25 members. They're connected with the Texas Work Force- Older Individuals who are Blind Program. This group specializes in teaching people to do tasks that become more difficult once they have become blind and encouraging people who need it.

CONVERGE Youth Sunday

Sunday, June 14 our worship service will be led by a combined youth choir of students from South Main Baptist in Pasadena, Texas and students from Second B. This youth choir event is called CONVERGE and began 20 years ago at FBC San Marcos, Texas. Converge occurs once a year in either a weekend or full week format and has involved 2-5 churches collaborating each year. It was designed to encourage worship, service, ministry, and fellowship among young people. It has been hosted at churches in San Marcos, Houston, Pasadena, New Braunfels, San Antonio, Dallas, Tyler, San Angelo, College Station and others. I am excited Second B will host this in Lubbock for a week this year.

Our students and sponsors will be singing/leading here at Second B, FBC Cotton Center, FBC Floydada and High Point Village. During the week, they will also sing at two retirement communities in Lubbock and one in Amarillo. Converge participants will be leading Summer Fun Camp from 9am-noon each morning for k-5th children here on our campus. Several evenings will center around fun and fellowship through swimming, Go-carts, mini-golf and culminate Thursday with a visit to Palo Duro Canyon to experience the musical “Texas.”

I look forward to June 14 and sharing this group with you and sharing our church family with this group. Thanks for your prayers in preparation for this and gifts that make an experience like this possible for our young people.
