Celebrating Our 2025 Graduates

As this school year draws to a close, we give thanks for the lives and leadership of our graduating seniors. Each one has grown in faith, character, and community, and we are honored to have walked alongside them in their journeys. Join us as we celebrate their accomplishments and send them forward with our love and prayers.

Kylie Boyd

Daughter of Dan and Sharla Boyd. Kylie is graduating from Coronado High School, where she has been actively involved in volleyball, the athletic training team, and the cosmetology program. Her proudest accomplishment was being inducted into the National Honor Society. This fall, Kylie will attend Texas Tech University to major in psychology, inspired by her mother’s career in the field. Wreck 'em!

Hannah Harvey

Daughter of Nathan and Kacee Harvey. Hannah is graduating from All Saints Episcopal School, where she has been active in National Honor Society, the Literary Society, and served as Captain of the Speech and Debate Team. She earned multiple TAPPS state titles in speech and was twice awarded the Virginia Wirth Speaker Award. Hannah also volunteered with the National Charity League and worked at Soda Shack. She will attend the College of William and Mary in Virginia to study law.

Avery MacKenzie

Daughter of Morgan and Melanie MacKenzie. Avery is graduating from New Home High School. She has been involved in National Honor Society, Academic UIL, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Varsity Track. Avery also served as Director of Football Operations for the Varsity Football team and was team captain for Raider Xtreme dance. She will attend the University of Arkansas to major in Nursing, with plans to become a Nurse Anesthetist.

Delaney Zalman

Daughter of Nathan and Jessica Zalman. Delaney is graduating from Lubbock-Cooper High School, where she has competed in FBLA events, advancing to the state level three times. A dedicated band member throughout high school, Delaney served as both uniform captain and drum major. She has been accepted to Texas Tech University, where she will major in criminology and audition for the Goin’ Band from Raiderland. Delaney writes, “Thank y’all for being my childhood church and always supporting me. Love you all and Wreck ‘em!”

Jordan Zelante

Son of Concetto “Anthony” and Anna Marie Zelante. Jordan is graduating from Texas Connections Academy in Houston this June. He has been recognized for outstanding achievement in advanced sciences and mathematics. Jordan plans to take a short gap period before attending university to pursue a nursing degree with a focus on anesthesiology. His favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:18 — “The pain that you have been feeling cannot compare to the joy that is coming.”

Join us after worship this Sunday, May 4 for a churchwide potluck as we celebrate our graduating seniors. Everyone is encouraged to bring a favorite dish to share. The church will provide fried chicken, rolls, and drinks.

We’re incredibly proud of each graduate. If you’d like to bring a card with your congratulations and encouragement, we’d love for you to do so.

2b Youth Summer Camp 2025: Gravitate

Cooks Canyon, Ruidoso, NM | July 14–17 | $200 per youth

This year’s theme, Gravitate, challenges us to consider what pulls our hearts: toward the world or toward God. Based on James 4:8, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you,” we’ll explore grace, desire, and the daily call to follow Jesus.

Help Fight Childhood Hunger

We’re collecting donations now through the end of May to support the South Plains Food Bank’s Children’s Summer Feeding Program, and we need your help!

This initiative helps provide meals to children in our community who face food insecurity when school is out. All donations will go directly to SPFB to support their mission of building a stronger, healthier community. Drop off items in the designated bins near the church office. Let’s come together and make a difference!

B&B Book Club: New Book Starting May 13

The B&B Book Club will begin reading Good Soil by Jeff Chu on Tuesday, May 13. Join us Tuesdays at 11:00 AM for thoughtful conversation and community. All are welcome!

Good Soil: The Education of an Accidental Farmhand is Jeff Chu’s personal and often humorous account of leaving city life to join a Christian farming community in Michigan. With no experience, he and his husband learned as they went, growing not just crops but also faith, identity, and belonging. It is a story of doubt, transformation, and the unexpected places where grace takes root.

Join our Ushering Team

Looking for a simple, meaningful way to serve at Second B? Our Sunday ushering teams help greet worshipers, hand out bulletins, assist with offerings, and create a welcoming atmosphere each week. It’s a small but powerful way to help people feel at home from the moment they walk through the doors.

No experience is needed, just a friendly face and a willingness to serve! If you’re interested in joining this ministry, contact Alan Lackey at alanloydlackey@gmail.com.

Check Out the Thank You Board

Inside the church office, across from the receptionist desk, you’ll find our Thank You Board—a space dedicated to sharing notes and letters of gratitude from those who have been touched by the ministry and care of Second B. These messages offer a glimpse into the ways our church makes a difference in people’s lives, both near and far. We invite you to stop by, take a moment to read the kind words, and be encouraged by the impact our community continues to make.

If you have a note of thanks or a meaningful message you'd like to share, please contact Tracy Douthitt at tracy@secondb.org.

Join Our Golf Cart Team

Be the first friendly face people see on Sunday mornings! Our golf cart team greets people as they arrive, offering rides and a warm welcome from the parking lot to the church doors. It’s a great way to extend hospitality, lend a helping hand, and connect with others before they even step inside.

We’ll show you everything you need to know, and you’ll be part of a team that makes a real difference each week.

If you’re interested in joining, contact Mike King at mike.king@verizon.net.
