Finding Common Ground in an Election Year
Join us on October 6th at 4:00 p.m. in the Worship Hall for Finding Common Ground in an Election Year: A Dialogue on Faith, Family, and Politics. Hosted by the Reconciliation Team of Second B, this panel features Mark Griffin and Harvey Morton, with Rev. Charles Johnson facilitating the discussion.
Mark, a Lubbock native, currently serves as a Regent of the Texas Tech University System and has a long history in law, business, and public service, including 14 years on the LISD School Board. Harvey, also a longtime Lubbock resident and attorney, has held leadership roles in mental health advocacy and politics, including serving as Chair of the Lubbock County Democratic Party.
Together, they’ll explore the intersection of faith, family, and politics, and how to foster meaningful conversations in a divided world. This event is open to the public—you won’t want to miss it!

Blessing of the Animals
The Blessing of the Animals is a special event focused on expressing our gratitude to God for all of creation, especially for the joy that living creatures bring to our lives. Pets of all types and sizes reflect the diversity, creativity, and beauty of God’s grace. From the smallest to the largest, these animal friends (birds, snakes, gerbils, insects, fish, frogs, reptiles, cats, dogs, horses, etc.) demonstrate the unconditional love and awe-inspiring variety that God’s dynamic creativity inspires in each of us. The blessing service will be brief, with only a few spoken words, followed by the individual blessing of each of God’s creatures. It will be held on the north lawn by the Grand Hall at 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 29th, and will be led by Pastor Tim Lyles, Kathleen Campbell, and Stephanie Nash. All of God’s creatures are welcome!
