As part of our Fall Discussion Series at 2b, we welcomed Professor Richard Rosen, retired U.S. Army officer and legal scholar, for a conversation on The Constitution and Community. Drawing on his distinguished career in military law, the Department of Justice, and constitutional studies, Professor Rosen shared powerful insights on how our founding principles shape the way we live together as neighbors, citizens, and people of faith.

Wandering & Wondering

September, 4, 2025 - One Month Together 

For the last month you have welcomed me into this community with open arms, big smiles, generous spirits and beautiful moments. We have worshipped together, eaten together, shared stories and traded experiences. All of this has been happening together. 

Soon we will begin imagining the next few years of church together. 

I keep using the word together because it’s the only way I know to do church…. To do life. As I have shared in a few ways before, my commitment to the church is only superseded by my commitment to Jesus. These are where my allegiances are. 

And you, this church, is where my focus is right now. I am wanting and needing to hear from you on your hopes and dreams, concerns and worries about our church. I am less interested in what another congregation is doing. I am most interested in what we can do to make Second Baptist the place that God desires for it to be. 

Over the next few weeks we will talk about everything from Sunday Morning Worship to the 2026 Budget; we will begin to imagine where we are present in the city of Lubbock and where we might need to be. We will continue to share stories, break bread and discover how God is working in our lives, both as individuals and as a church

. 

I have one request: be curious, show up as one who is ready to listen, be brave (however that looks to you) and be ready for the transformative power of God.

Welcome Gatherings with Rev. Carrie

Help us give a big Texas welcome to Rev. Carrie Veal, our new Senior Pastor! This September and October, our 2b Carrie(d) Forward weekly home-hosted gatherings will give us a chance to meet Carrie, enjoy meaningful conversation, and build connections as we celebrate this new chapter in the life of Second B.

Snacks and drinks will be provided, and free childcare is available for the September 12 and October 17 gatherings. Attendance is limited to 12 people per home to keep each gathering intimate and engaging.

Please see the sign-up sheet on the desk outside the church front office to choose your date and time. Spots are first come, first served, so be sure to sign up soon!

Involvement and Engagement 

At a recent Sunday School coordinator gathering, I posed a question to think about your Sunday School class and their involvement in the church as a whole. Where are you engaged? how are you serving your church community? Are you finding new- to-you ministries where you can share your time and your talent? Are you living into “every member is a minister?” 

As we enter this new chapter of life together, where we are continuing to discover what is unwritten, I am finding my own new ways of doing ministry, new paths to walk my faith. I too am learning and growing, expanding what I have always known. Will you join me? Together let’s see what God might do with our willingness to not stay where we are but move to where we might be pulled.
