Seeking Additional Ushers

Ushering on Sunday morning is an opportunity to meet and welcome members and visitors, and to be of service to Second Presbyterian. All it takes is a smiling face and a friendly attitude. You may usher as frequently or infrequently as you wish, but the schedule is usually once a month. There are also a few instructions for new ushers.

If you are interested in contributing in this way, please text or email

Thank you!

Welcome, John Lasater

Organist

We are pleased to announce that John Lasater has joined 2nd Presbyterian as our organist. We hope you will welcome him warmly, as he is excited to be a part of our church family.

John Lasater began piano lessons at age 6 and moved to the organ at age 13. He first studied with J. E. Turner at Bradley University (Peoria) and continued those studies with Helen Midkiff at Belmont University (Nashville). He continued studying with Mrs. Midkiff through his senior year at Belmont. During his years there, he became Organist at First Baptist of Hendersonville, where he remained for over 33 years.

After graduating with a B.S. in Mathematics, he began his career in the telecommunications industry. He met his wife of 44 years, Jan, while at First Baptist and they had two sons, Drew and Jay.

He later became Organist at First United Methodist of Springfield; he also took an early retirement from telecommunications and began teaching high school Math and Physics. He retired from Sumner County Schools in June of 2021.

With the passing of his wife in March, John moved to Knoxville to live with his son, Jay. He recently became an Educational Consult with Cambridge Educational Services, focusing on school and district strategies to help students improve their ACT scores.

See and hear about the new 96-apartment Lodge at Shannondale. Learn how Second Presbyterian Church was a part of this amazing outreach to the elderly.

This will be our last meeting until September.

You may have noticed a small new addition to the chancel area. Next to the pulpit is a beautiful pottery bowl. This bowl was created during worship on March 27th by potter, Daniel Huxtable.

Daniel threw the bowl during worship and then glazed and fired it before bringing it back to us to be displayed.

If you missed that worship service and would like to see Daniel's work in action, the video can be found on our YouTube channel, which can be accessed through the church's website, or simply click the link below.

No experience necessary – just a willingness to sing praise to the Lord!

If you like to shop, this month (June)

the FISH Pantry mission is in special need of the following household and personal items:

 -Liquid Dish Soap

 -Shampoo

 -Deodorant

 -Toothpaste

Our once-a-month FISH team receives phone call requests for food and these additional items; they are then sorted, packed, and delivered to each client's household.

All donations should be newly purchased, and any quantities would be greatly appreciated.

Please contact the church office (865.523.2189 or bsmith@2ndpres.org)

if you have items you would like to drop off at the church.

PLEASE DO NOT DONATE FOOD (other than for pets).

Please also note...

Thanks to your generosity, we have plenty of the following items for now:

bath soap, toilet paper, and both children's and adult diapers,

so we do not need more of those items at this time.

Did you know? This list changes monthly to reflect current needs!

Thank you!
