Seeking Additional Ushers

Ushering on Sunday morning is a great  opportunity to meet and welcome members and visitors, and to be of service to Second Presbyterian. All it takes is a smiling face and a friendly attitude. You may usher as frequently or infrequently as you wish, but the schedule is usually once a month. There are also a few instructions for new ushers.

If you are interested in contributing in this way, please contact Betsy Foster:

James McTyre, Guest Preacher

Sunday, June 19th

James is currently serving as Transitional General Presbyter and as Stated Clerk of the presbytery. Before this, he served as a pastor, an associate pastor, and a computer software engineer. He and his wife, Kristen, have two daughters, one in college and the other in graduate school. They are also the proud parents of a spoiled rotten Biewer Terrier, Bandit, who keeps them laughing and dispensing treats. James has a longstanding interest in developing ways technology can be leveraged to help spread the Gospel in innovative and accessible forms.

Fathers Day

June 19, 2022

Honor the father in your life with a gift that spreads their good cheer a little farther this year!

Giving in their honor through the Presbyterian Giving Catalog spreads hope and helps make lasting, positive change around the world. Show them you understand what’s most important to them, with a small gift that makes a big impact.

All gifts include a personalized honor e-card illustrating the impact their gift will make on the world. Collective generosity accomplishes far more together than any one of us can do alone.

Flock of Chickens $25

Eggs for food, feathers for pillows, and fertilizer for crops. By giving a family a flock of chickens, you can help improve the food security and livelihoods of farmers and families around the world.

Beekeeping $240

Bees not only help crops but also incomes grow. In parts of the world where harvesting a seasonal crop might not provide enough money to live on all year, beekeeping helps farmers supplement their earnings.

Fishery Kit $75

Help families fight famine and extreme hunger with a complete fishery kit that includes a fishing net, line, and fish finding radars.

The GO team seeks SPC volunteers to help pack food.

If you would like to help, please consider these opportunities:

Tuesday, July 19  (3 people)

       10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Wednesday, July 20 (7 people)

       10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Are you looking for an opportunity to serve GOD

and your fellow man?

As many of you know, the LOVE KITCHEN was started in 1984 by sisters Helen Ashe and Ellen Turner, to serve the needy by feeding GOD'S children.  While both sisters are now deceased, their legacy continues through the efforts of volunteers. The LOVE KITCHEN has no paid staff, but volunteers serve over 3,000 meals each week.

To sign up and/or ask questions, please call Tim Wright at 865-617-4025.

If you like to shop, this month (June)

the FISH Pantry mission is in special need of the following household and personal items:

 * Toothpaste

 * Liquid Dish Soap

 * Shampoo

 * Maxi Pads

 * Diapers - children's (size 6 only, please!)

Our once-a-month FISH team receives phone call requests for food and these additional items; they are then sorted, packed, and delivered to each client's household.

All donations should be newly purchased, and any quantities would be greatly appreciated.

Please contact the church office (865.523.2189 or bsmith@2ndpres.org)

if you have items you would like to drop off at the church.

PLEASE DO NOT DONATE FOOD (other than for pets).

Please also note...

Thanks to your generosity, we have plenty of the following items for now:

bath soap, toilet paper, adult diapers, and all OTHER sizes of children's diapers, so we do not need more of those items at this time.

Did you know? This list changes monthly to reflect current needs!

Thank you!
