July 9, 2021
Join us virtually or in-person for our Sunday Worship Service at 11:00 a.m. To watch virtually: click the button above or visit our website, www.2ndpres.org, and click the "Sunday Live stream" button on the home page.
We will email an active link on Sunday morning.

Also - if you click the gray button above you will be able to download the worship order so you can follow along at home!
Face coverings are now optional for all activities in the church building, including worship

Additionally, we are no longer enforcing physical distancing in the sanctuary by taping off every other pew. We are relying on you to make a safe and responsible choice when finding a seat for worship. Please be considerate of others and think of their comfort level, as well as your own, when finding your seat for worship.

Thank you!
RECONNECTION SESSIONS

During July and early August, Pastors Tim and Sarah will be holding a series of small group Reconnection Sessions at the church. This will be a chance for us to get together and reconnect with one another following the pandemic, and to process together what we’ve been through during the previous 16 months. Each session will last approximately one hour and will be limited to 8 participants. All meetings will be held in the Fireside Room (Library). Click the button below to sign up.

This information and sign up link can also be found on the home page of our website, 2ndpres.org.
Tomorrow, Saturday, July 10th, the Youth Group will host a Parents' Night Out at the church from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Members of our Youth Group, along with Tim & Tuesday Reynolds, will hang out with our youngest members while their parents are free to have a date night, go shopping, or just take a nap! We will have games and activities for the older kids, along with plenty of love and care for the babies.

Drop-off will be in the Atrium any time after 5:00 p.m. We will be there until 9:00 p.m., but if your child's sleep schedule prompts you to pick up your child earlier, that's okay, too. There is no charge for this - its' not a fund raiser. It's our Youth Group's gift to the families of the church who have young children.

We look forward to seeing your children (or grandchildren!) on Saturday, July 10th!

*In the July Second Edition there is a misprint that includes the incorrect date for this event. Saturday July 10th is the correct date. We apologize for the confusion!
As you are aware, our Youth Director and Assistant Director of the Preschool, Holly Grimm, recently lost her husband, Justin, who was a teacher in our preschool. There will be a service of remembrance for him here at 2nd Pres in the near future. We will let you know when that is planned. In the meantime, there are several ways you can support Holly and her family.

If you would like to sign up to provide a meal, use the link below. Please be sure to read the “Review All Instructions” section, as it has the family’s preferences. They have also let us know that gift cards to restaurants (fast food or otherwise) or Kroger would be greatly appreciated. This allows them a little more freedom, given their schedules.

If you would like to help pay some of Holly’s bills, please contact Pastor Tim for more information about how to do that.

There are also plans being made for a memorial to Justin and a scholarship fund for Tinley, Justin and Holly’s daughter. We will let you know when those plans are finalized, should you want to contribute to those.

Please keep Holly, Kylie, Brayden, and Tinley your prayers.
Second Quarter Contribution Statements were sent either via email or First Class Mail this week. If you did not receive one, or if you have a question regarding your statement, please contact Audrey (ajohnson@2ndpres.org or
865-523-2189).
Knox County students are returning to school on August 9th. In preparation for the start of school, Second Presbyterian Church will hold the annual work day on Saturday, August 7th.

This will be an opportunity to work outside and, hopefully, inside to help prepare the school for a new academic year. This is one of the church’s outreach missions and there is a need for many hands to help prepare the school for students. Please consider volunteering your time to this worthy endeavor.

An online sign-up to help on the work day is linked below, and a sign-up sheet will also be available in the atrium.

The list of needed school supplies is also listed below. In purchasing, teachers prefer Crayola brand crayons and markers. You may drop off supplies to the church.

Thank you for your support!
IT’S NOT TOO LATE!

It’s not too late to support the Westview Elementary School Food Backpack program which provides 98 children a backpack of food to take home each weekend during the school year.

The cost is $100 per child for the upcoming school year. The program is administered by the Second Harvest Food Bank.

We have had a very positive response from our members but it’s not too late for you to participate in sponsoring a child.

To do so, you can make your check payable to Second Presbyterian Church ($100 per child) putting Westview Backpack on the memo line and either mailing it to Audrey or putting it in the collection plate.

Alternatively, you can make your check payable to Second Harvest Food Bank, putting FFK-Westview in the memo line and mailing it to Second Harvest Food Bank, 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville, TN 37801, Attn: Sam Compton.

If you have any questions about these instructions, please contact either Tracy Horton or Tim Wright.
Plan on joining us for in-person worship? Great! With everyone wearing face coverings, however, it may be difficult to recognize each other. So we’re asking everyone to wear their nametags prominently each Sunday. There are a number of them on the board outside the kitchen, but some of you may have taken yours home with you the last time you were here.

If you are one of those people, stop what you’re doing right now and go find it so you’ll have it on Sunday. Don’t have a nametag?
Let the church office know and we’ll order you one!
The July - August Upper Room Devotionals are now available!

Copies are available in the vestibule, as well as at both entrances to the sanctuary.
If you like to shop, the Fish Pantry mission is in need of the following household and personal items:

-Dish Soap
-Bath Soap
-Shampoo
-Toothpaste
-Deodorant
-Toilet Paper

Our once-a-month Fish team receives phone call requests for food and these additional items; then they are sorted, packed, and delivered to each client's household.

All donations should be newly purchased, and any quantities would be greatly appreciated.

They can be dropped off into the “Fish” bin that sits on the floor in the coat rack area just off the atrium. Thank you!
It’s time to say good-bye to David Stultz. We are sad to see him go, but it has been a true blessing to have him as our organist and part of our congregation for the last 3-and-a-half years.

As a thank you and a good-bye, we are taking up a love offering; we will also present him with a keepsake gift from the congregation. If you would like to make a donation to this love offering, please send your donation to the church and designate it for David’s love offering.

David is going to perform a concert on July 25th at 5:00 PM and we will have a reception for him after the concert.

It will be exciting to see what the future holds for David. Hopefully, there will be an opportunity for him to come back and worship with us and share his gifts in the future.
With the "opening up" of society again, some folks are asking about visiting our shut-ins.

And while they would love the company, the key is to call before you go.
Each facility has differing protocol and it changes frequently. Reportedly all facilities are fully vaccinated so they are beginning to relax a bit.

For folks shut in at home, the decision is individual.

Just remember - Call before you go!

And thank you for thinking about our fragile community. Cards and calls are always welcome.
We are in need of 2 nursery volunteers each Sunday morning for the Nursery and Toddler/Preschool classes. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact the church office.
Our Wi-Fi network is for use by anyone who visits the building.

The network is “Second Presbyterian Church” and the password is Psalm100.

Please feel free to save it as a network that connects automatically for your device.
On the Pastoral Care page of our website, we will share more specific updates regarding those on our prayer list. It will be updated frequently by the church staff.

Visit our website: 2ndpres.org. The page is located under the 'Members' tab.

To keep all information private, the page is password protected. Please contact Audrey at the church office (via email: ajohnson@2ndpres.org or phone: 865.523.2189) for the password.
Compassionate Cuisine is a program from the Care and Compassion committee and our Cooking Teams. This group is collaborating to create a homecooked meal, and will gather safely at the church to package them into individual portions, that they will then distribute to some of our members who are living in their homes but may not be getting out and about to pick up dinner or groceries to make a home-cooked meal.

The teams would love to have your help in cooking and/or distributing meals in hopes that this ministry might be able to grow in the coming months. If you’re interested in helping by cooking a portion of one of the meals and/or would be willing to deliver some of the meals, please contact Leslie Matthews: flowlilly@gmail.com, (865) 765-0549.
The Faith, Science & the Future Sunday School class uses The Wired Word curriculum which looks at current events through the lens of faith.
