Face coverings are now optional for all activities in the church building, including worship

Additionally, we are no longer enforcing physical distancing in the sanctuary by taping off every other pew. We are relying on you to make a safe and responsible choice when finding a seat for worship.

Please be considerate of others and think of their comfort level, as well as your own, when finding your seat for worship. Thank you!
The August Second Edition is now available, click the link below to read it online!

RECONNECTION SESSIONS

Continuing in August, Pastors Tim and Sarah are holding a series of small group Reconnection Sessions at the church. This is a chance for us to get together and reconnect with one another following the pandemic, and to process together what we’ve been through during the past 16 months. Each session lasts approximately one hour and is limited to 8 participants. We encourage everyone to attend one of these sessions, especially those new to our congregation. All meetings will be held in the Fireside Room (Library). Click the button below to sign up.

Upcoming sessions:

Sunday, August 1 @ 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, August 11 @ 5:30 p.m.
Thursday, August 19th @ 6:00 p.m. (recently added)

This information and sign up link can also be found on the home page of our website, 2ndpres.org.
There will be a service of Healing & Wholeness on
Sunday, August 22nd at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.

This service will be a chance to offer lament for the losses we experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as to claim the hope of Christ as we move forward out of the pandemic.
As you are aware, our Youth Director and Assistant Director of the Preschool, Holly Grimm, recently lost her husband, Justin, who was a teacher in our preschool. There will be a service of remembrance for him here at 2nd Pres in the near future. We will let you know when that is planned. In the meantime, there are several ways you can support Holly and her family.

If you would like to sign up to provide a meal, use the link below. Please be sure to read the “Review All Instructions” section, as it has the family’s preferences. They have also let us know that gift cards to restaurants (fast food or otherwise) or Kroger would be greatly appreciated. This allows them a little more freedom, given their schedules.

If you would like to help pay some of Holly’s bills, please contact Pastor Tim for more information about how to do that.

There are also plans being made for a memorial to Justin and a scholarship fund for Tinley, Justin and Holly’s daughter. We will let you know when those plans are finalized, should you want to contribute to those.

Please keep Holly, Kylie, Brayden, and Tinley your prayers.
Let’s shower the Henley's will meals as John recovers.

John is on a soft/bland diet for the time being.

You can view the Meal Train page by clicking the button below.
Additional Volunteers Needed!

We are trying to finalize our fall volunteer schedule and are still needing 2 people willing to be in our nursery on a 6-week rotation. We are also in need of 1 person to help teach Kindergarten-5th grade Sunday school once a month. If you are interested, please contact Holly Grimm at hgrimm@2ndpres.org or 865-243-6353.
Knox County students are returning to school on August 9th. In preparation for the start of school, Second Presbyterian Church will hold the annual work day on Saturday, August 7th.

This will be an opportunity to work outside and inside to help prepare the school for a new academic year. This is one of the church’s outreach missions and there is a need for many hands to help prepare the school for students. Please consider volunteering your time to this worthy endeavor.

An online sign-up to help on the work day is linked below, and a sign-up sheet will also be available in the atrium.

The list of needed school supplies is also listed below. In purchasing, teachers prefer Crayola brand crayons and markers. You may drop off supplies to the church.

Thank you for your support!
IT’S NOT TOO LATE!

It’s not too late to support the Westview Elementary School Food Backpack program which provides 98 children a backpack of food to take home each weekend during the school year.

The cost is $100 per child for the upcoming school year. The program is administered by the Second Harvest Food Bank.

We have had a very positive response from our members but it’s not too late for you to participate in sponsoring a child.

To do so, you can make your check payable to Second Presbyterian Church ($100 per child) putting Westview Backpack on the memo line and either mailing it to Audrey or putting it in the collection plate.

Alternatively, you can make your check payable to Second Harvest Food Bank, putting FFK-Westview in the memo line and mailing it to Second Harvest Food Bank, 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville, TN 37801, Attn: Sam Compton.

If you have any questions about these instructions, please contact either Tracy Horton or Tim Wright.
If you like to shop, the Fish Pantry mission is in need of the following household and personal items:

-Dish Soap
-Bath Soap
-Shampoo
-Toothpaste
-Deodorant
-Toilet Paper

Our once-a-month Fish team receives phone call requests for food and these additional items; then they are sorted, packed, and delivered to each client's household.

All donations should be newly purchased, and any quantities would be greatly appreciated.

They can be dropped off into the “Fish” bin that sits on the floor in the coat rack area just off the atrium. Thank you!
With the "opening up" of society again, some folks are asking about visiting our shut-ins.

And while they would love the company, the key is to call before you go.
Each facility has differing protocol and it changes frequently. Reportedly all facilities are fully vaccinated so they are beginning to relax a bit.

For folks shut in at home, the decision is individual.

Just remember - Call before you go!

And thank you for thinking about our fragile community. Cards and calls are always welcome.
Compassionate Cuisine is a program from the Care and Compassion committee and our Cooking Teams. This group is collaborating to create a homecooked meal, and will gather safely at the church to package them into individual portions, that they will then distribute to some of our members who are living in their homes but may not be getting out and about to pick up dinner or groceries to make a home-cooked meal.

The teams would love to have your help in cooking and/or distributing meals in hopes that this ministry might be able to grow in the coming months. If you’re interested in helping by cooking a portion of one of the meals and/or would be willing to deliver some of the meals, please contact Leslie Matthews: flowlilly@gmail.com, (865) 765-0549.
The Faith, Science & the Future Sunday School class uses The Wired Word curriculum which looks at current events through the lens of faith.

We will be meeting in the Mary Chambers Room at 9:45 a.m. each week. See you then!
The July - August Upper Room Devotionals are now available!

Copies are available in the vestibule, as well as at both entrances to the sanctuary.
