Take A Class with Us This Winter!

While our in-person classes are reserved for PAC Members, all of our Zoom Classes are open to the public if space allows!
We are so excited to offer another 5-week session of winter classes!

This semester, we have an array of both in-person & Zoom classes. Please note which classes are in-person, and which are Zoom.

As we are all eager to get back and create together, your safety is our top priority. All tables and easels in the classroom will be set up 6 feet apart, and we are requiring that everyone wear a mask while inside the Club.

Because of the ever-changing policies and rules, please be aware that in-person class size limits are subject to change. Please also be aware that some in-person classes could switch to Zoom if state restrictions change.

Due to the in-person class limit, we ask that (for now) you only sign up for two in-person classes to give all of our members an opportunity to participate. If you wish to sign up for more than two, please specify when registering which classes you prefer in order. You will be added to a waitlist, and if there is room, you will be notified.

Nonmembers will be able to take a Zoom class if space allows.
Interested in taking an online class but don't feel fully comfortable with Zoom?

Review our Distance Learning Student Guide on Zoom classes, created by member Nickerson Miles & his Distance Learning Strategy Team.

We will also be offering Zoom tutorials to anyone who would like to get more comfortable with the platform. Email abba@providenceartclub.org if you are interested in a tutorial. We are happy to help!

Painting with Passion:
with Anthony Tomaselli
There is something about this creative process of making art that keeps bringing us back to IT! A passion…..a question that needs to be answered….that special feeling we get when doing it…..the camaraderie of others involved in this similar journey. Why do you keep coming back?

The main focus of this class will be YOU! Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran of painting (making art), the journey begins with you. We will together define your goals and set out to achieve them. The ultimate goal for you is to learn and improve.

Yes we will work on fundamentals, yes we will discuss traditional as well as contemporary art applications, yes we will critique at the end of each class -- my goal is to inspire and challenge.

So I encourage you to Paint! Have courage, don’t be too comfortable where you are: experiment, splash, scrape, blend, draw, paint…and sculpt. Don’t fear the unknown. Embrace it. Be challenged by it. Most of all, enjoy every minute of it!

Making More Meaningful Photographs with Ron Rosenstock

Class 2:  Maintaining Creative Energy.
Ron will be explaining how we can all maintain our creative energy even when circumstances change drastically. Creating a project, and learning how to scan old slides and negatives for printing.

Class 3: Post Processing, from untouched RAW to a Finished print.
Ron will show many examples of the first untouched RAW image and then explain what he did to reach a final photograph.

Materials: Have your FAVORITE 3-5 most meaningful photographs to share with the group for the first class.

Location: Online via Zoom
Limited to 15 students

Class Fee: $33 | $73 non-member
(3 classes)
Ron Rosenstock has been creating images of the world and its people since the 1950's. His work has had many incarnations from vivid colors to black and white, from the darkroom to digital, from large format cameras to full-frame digital, from early dawn to infrared dusk. His images are real, though real is hardly subjective. Viewed in objective terms, color is far more real than black and white is - if only because color is such a defining element of reality as experienced by the human eye.
Fridays, February 19 - March 19
1-4pm
Independent Study in Painting:
with Shawn Kenney
All levels welcome, from beginner to advanced. I will work with students individually to determine the direction, intensity, and outcome of the class, with extensive one-on-one coaching and critiques each class. My goal in the classroom is to create a safe haven for personal exploration and growth. I do not teach how to work "my way." I'm here to help you find  your  way.

Each student comes in with something specific in mind -- for instance, getting over a fear of paint, or copying an old family photo. For more advanced students, it's pushing and refining vision, improving sense of color, preparing a body of work for gallery submission, etc.

Materials:  paints & surfaces that you are comfortable working with
