Assumption Advent Giving Tree

You can help make Christmas brighter for a child in need by joining Assumption’s Annual Giving Tree project. We will collect gifts through Sunday, December 18. We hope to provide at least 125 gifts to children and youth served by Hour Children.

Ways to participate:

  • Purchase a gift for a boy or a girl, ages 3 through 14. Bring your gift, unwrapped, and leave in the narthex of the church, or at the Oratory Residence.
  • Order a gift online, and have it shipped directly to the Oratory Residence at Assumption, noting that the order is a gift in the recipient line (see below):

Families, Fathers & Children

Families, Fathers & Children is an annual Christmas Party for children and families that have been impacted by incarceration. The Social Justice Action Committee of the Oratory parishes is working with the organizers to provide the party this year. The party will be on Saturday, December 17th, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at St. Monica’s Hall, 27 Sterling Place, Brooklyn.

If you can donate toys, call (718) 789-5321 for drop off information.

Email [email protected] for a list of ethnically appropriate dolls and toys. If you can donate food, please bring the food to St. Monica’s Hall on 12/17. Trays of your favorite recipe are most welcome as are drink boxes and desserts.

If you can help with the party, including set-up, clean-up and helping children do crafts at the party, please do. Questions?

Christmas Bach and Bonds in Carnegie Hall

This Advent, what could be better than experiencing the wonder and choral magic of J.S. Bach's Baroque choral masterworks Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio (Section V) paired with Margaret Bonds' taut and rousing The Ballad of the Brown King, based on the Langston Hughes Nativity poem, in the grandest of concert halls? A handful members of our Oratory communities (including two from the Oratory choir) are singing in the 100+ strong Cecilia Chorus with orchestra and wonderful soloists in Carnegie Hall, Sunday, December 11 at 2 pm. With such an early afternoon concert, travel will be easier and it will still be light outside when the concert is over. Text (718) 490-1694 or email ([email protected]) soon for more information and the best possible discount on tickets. Tell your friends and family as well. We would love to see you there!

Baptism Preparation for Parents

If you are expecting a child or are new to our communities and would like to have your child baptized in our parishes, please register for the next Baptism Preparation Session which is offered through Zoom.

Send your inquiry to: [email protected] and we will follow up to register you and send you the print materials.
