Earlier this month, I had a chance to meet up with some friends.  Over the course of conversation, my pal, Miguel, related a story about his son, Matteo.  Matteo, a high school sophomore, was recently hospitalized because of severe depression and suicidal thoughts.  When Matteo returned to school, Miguel told his teachers he missed a week of school while on a family trip.  When I asked Miguel why he didn't tell the teachers about Matteo's hospitalization, he simply said "stigma."

Loss and Pain Leads to Healing and Hope: Nicole's Story

22-year-old Nicole began her healing journey when she finally gathered the courage to call 2-1-1.  Nicole had a history of depression that spiraled into cutting herself after the loss of her grandmother, mother and partner in just three years.

Nicole was living with family, but felt like an outcast who just didn't fit in and could not muster the strength to be independent and move out.

The 2-1-1 Specialist Nicole connected with helped her develop a safety plan and connected her with Dan, a Care Coordinator with the Healthy Transitions program. The program helps teens and young adults with a history of mental health struggles gain access to treatment and support services.

There's Still Time to Register for the SpeakUp5k!

Fun for a Good Cause at the SpeakUp5K
Over 250 people have already registered for the SpeakUp5K race on Saturday morning, October 22nd at Al Lopez Park!  The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay is a beneficiary of the event and will use the funds to support the Healthy Transitions program that helps teens and young adults battling depression and other forms of mental illness.

Tampa Bay's Dancing with the Stars

The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, along with four additional local non-profits were beneficiaries of the 2016 Tampa Bay's Dancing with the Stars organized by Julie Weintraub's Hands Across the Bay. Over 600 people attended the black-tie gala at TPepin's Hospitality Centre and were treated to a dance competition featuring local celebrities and community leaders.

Funds raised at the event will benefit suicide prevention services at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. Many thanks to Julie Weintraub's Hands Across the Bay and everyone involved in organizing this fantastic annual event!    
 
Making Business Connections at Firestick Grill

Business professionals from the Tampa Bay area gathered after work at the Firestick Grill at Amalie Arena for an evening of cool drinks, great food, and business networking during the Crisis Center's Business Connections event on September 22nd.

Crisis Center CEO, Clara Reynolds, provided an overview of how the organization provides help, hope, and healing to people who are experiencing crisis and trauma, while Mark Alfrone from AllCovered talked about his company's involvement with the Crisis Center as a Corporate Partner.
