Securing Your Personal Data and Pushing Justice Reform Forward
This week, I introduced bipartisan legislation to ensure the government can't force private companies to build "back doors" into their cyber security systems. Americans entrust their private data to countless companies. To allow the government to force those companies to intentionally make your data less secure is simply unacceptable.

I also introduced a bipartisan bill which will secure and expand on the justice reforms of the First Step Act. When the First Step Act was signed into law in 2018, it was a major victory for those who’ve been working to fix the serious flaws in our justice system. But, there are a slew of outdated and ineffective sentencing laws still on the books which do nothing but waste taxpayer dollars, create new criminals, and make us all less safe. This new bill would ensure federal agencies fully implement the First Step Act as instructed by Congress, as well as institute new reforms to juvenile sentencing and the expungement of criminal records.

On a lighter note, this week we launched our District Dog tool to let the people of the Lowcountry share their lovely pups with the world! There are so many amazing people in our beautiful part of the world, and so many of them have incredible dogs.

These Lowcountry pups deserve recognition and we want to meet them. So, share a picture and a story about your furry friend on our website, and we may share them with the world in our newsletter and on social media!

I want to wish you all a safe and happy Memorial Day. Since before there was a United States, brave Americans gave their lives so our lives could be lived in freedom.

While it's important for us to take a moment and spend time with family and friends this weekend, it's absolutely vital for us to remember the incredible sacrifice our fallen service members and our veterans have made to give us the liberty we enjoy.

Sincerely,
Congresswoman Nancy Mace

Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) cosponsored bipartisan Ensuring National Constitutional Rights for Your Private Telecommunications (ENCRYPT) Act to ensure a uniform, national policy for encryption technology.

“Any curriculum based in Marxist ideology has no place in our kids' schools or within our military," Mace said. "Critical Race Theory is nothing more than an attempt by the radical left to indoctrinate our children and pit Americans against one another. Our country has more work to do on racial injustice, but injecting this poison into our institutions is not it."

Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) and Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) this week introduced the bipartisan First Step Implementation Act of 2021. This bill would ensure federal agencies fully implement the First Step Act as instructed by Congress, as well as institute new reforms to juvenile sentencing and the expungement of criminal records.
