UU Organizations Retirement Plan Updates
SPECIAL
Special Edition: Mid-May 2017

Security is everyone's responsibility.

Protecting Participants' Information
Daily reports of security breaches and the global impact of hacking calls us all to be vigilant with confidential information.

TIAA's Security Center offers helpful information: Learn More

Share with your employees:
  1. the link to TIAA's Security Center and
  2. let them know what steps you personally take in order to protect their identity as you go about the work of processing payroll and remitting contributions to TIAA.

Urge all staff to treat email with an extra dose of skepticism, even when the presumed sender is known to them. Once a system is compromised, sensitive benefits and compensation data may be at risk.

Remember:  Pause and Think before you click: Avoid suspicious email and don't click links or open attachments until after you independently verify that the message is actually from the named source and can be trusted.

In the News:

This week's news included a caution/alert that DocuSign had one of its systems attacked. Please treat emails claiming to be from DocuSign in the near future with a higher than normal level of skepticism.

The "Wanna Cry" ransomware impacts globally helped to highlight the kinds of malware that spreads through file sharing protocols on many version of the Windows OS. But Windows 10 is not susceptible to that particular infection at all.

Depending on the operating system you use, it may be time to upgrade to a supported OS because you won't get patches for many security issues if you are running XP or Vista.

Verify that you are updating systems regularly, and think about your data backup strategy. Cloud services may be good for this if they include version control.
