Program Spotlight: Family Preservation Programs - PREP

I Make a Difference Moment

As we prepare to welcome the fall season, we take a moment to reflect on the impact and progress of the past year.

Our Parent Resource Education Program (PREP) continues to provide essential support to families across our region, helping parents build stronger relationships with their children and navigate the complex challenges of parenting.

Using the nationally recognized Parents as Teachers curriculum, PREP equips parents with practical tools and knowledge to foster healthy development, strengthen family bonds, and promote long-term success. Through individual sessions, guided lessons, and hands-on coaching, our dedicated team walks alongside families, empowering them every step of the way.

Below is just one example of how PREP has made a difference in the life of a parent working toward reunification.

We are proud of the continued dedication of our PREP staff and look forward to expanding our reach and impact in the coming year.

The Parent Resources for Education Program (PREP) is a comprehensive, home-based initiative serving families in Midland, Gladwin, Clare, and Isabella counties. PREP empowers parents to actively support their child’s early growth and development by offering personalized home visits, engaging educational resources, and strong connections to community support.

We work with families who have children from prenatal to age 6 years old. Our approach equips parents with the knowledge and tools they need to foster learning, enhance school readiness, and nurture confident, resilient children. By focusing on the strength of the parent-child relationship, PREP not only prepares children for success in school but also helps families build the foundation for a lifetime of stability and well-being.

Through PREP, we are helping children and parents thrive, during the crucial early years and far beyond.

Small Routines, Big Impact: How Structure Transformed a Family’s Life

I’ve been working with a young Mom and her 2-year-old child for a few months. They recently moved into an apartment, and Mom was feeling overwhelmed with everything she had going on. She is working with other service providers, trying to assist her mother with her medical needs and put things away in the apartment. Mom had mentioned to me that she was struggling with keeping her daughter on a “normal” routine. The child didn’t usually go to bed until closer to 11 pm or midnight. This led to the neighbors making noise complaints about the child being loud. Read more.

As the new school year approaches, we have an opportunity to ensure children and youth in foster care start the year with the tools and confidence they need to succeed! Many of these children face challenges that go far beyond the classroom, and something as simple as new school supplies can make a world of difference.

It truly takes a village. Thank you for being part of our village!
