A Word From Mark

Dear Friends,

We are filled with gratitude as we celebrate the incredible success of Love Is Giving Day. In just 24 hours, your generosity helped raise $35,586 to support survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. Love is more than a feeling, it’s action. And your action is helping survivors, and their families find safety, healing, and the support they need to move forward.

Because of you, Radiant Futures can continue providing critical services like crisis intervention, emergency shelter, housing, counseling, and advocacy. Your support ensures that every survivor, no matter their story, has access to the resources they need to thrive.

June is Pride Month, we proudly reaffirm our role as a safe and affirming space for LGBTQIA+ survivors. LGBTQIA+ individuals experience higher rates of intimate partner violence and often face unique barriers to safety and support. Our commitment is to ensure that every survivor—regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation—finds a place of refuge, respect, and empowerment within our programs.

At Radiant Futures, we go beyond a one-size-fits-all approach, ensuring every survivor feels seen, heard, and empowered. In this month’s newsletter, we invite you to read “LGBTQ+ Community: Meeting Survivors Where They Are”. Whether it is affirming housing support, trauma-informed case management, or holistic wellness check-ins, we are committed to providing care that reflects the full humanity of those we serve.

Your continued support makes this work possible. Thank you for standing with us as we build a future where every survivor, regardless of who they are or who they love, can live a life free from violence.

With appreciation,

Mark

Ms. Stacey’s Story: Painting Hope on a Blank Canvas

Ms. Stacey's warm smile and infectious laugh now brighten every room she enters. Her joy is genuine, but hard-earned. Just weeks ago, she arrived at Radiant Futures after escaping an abusive relationship, uncertain of what lay ahead. Today, she proudly shares her latest painting from a guided art class, one of the creative outlets that helped her heal.

This chapter of Ms. Stacey's life was not part of her imagined retirement. She did not expect to find romance after moving into a senior living facility. But meeting Erik, another resident, brought a spark of companionship and comfort. Encouraged by this unexpected connection, the two moved into independent housing together.

Soon after, things changed. Erik became controlling, then emotionally and physically abusive. Ms. Stacey made multiple attempts to leave, but without anywhere to go, she felt trapped. The abuse escalated to being a serious threat to her life until one terrifying day, she called the police. That call led her to Radiant Futures and marked the beginning of her new life.

LGBTQIA+ Community: Meeting Survivors Where They Are

At Radiant Futures, we know that no two survivor stories are the same. Everyone who walks through our doors brings a unique history, challenges, and identity that must be seen, heard, and honored. This is especially true when working with diverse populations, especially members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Many LGBTQIA+ survivors experience not only domestic violence or human trafficking, but also workplace discrimination, social stigma, and a lack of familial support. These added barriers often create layers of trauma that go unrecognized in systems designed to be one-size-fits-all. Experiences with sexism, homophobia, and exploitation impacted every area of life, from employment and housing to mental health and safety.

When working with LGBTQIA+ survivors, we must also remain flexible and affirming in our approach. That means supporting housing searches that include options like LGBTQIA+ inclusive neighborhoods, shared housing with affirming roommates, or safe online housing platforms like roomster.com. For many, living in a space that reflects their identity can be just as important as having a roof over their head.
