Floating 9-Patch
|
Ruth sees tradition in a totally new way. This is more than a 9-Patch. It's like 9-patches in a 4-patch.
"Floating 9-Patch"
features traditional 9-patch blocks arranged in groups of four as a "sashed 4-patch." Putting it on a single color background gives the illusion that the blocks are floating. Simple, and easy!
You can choose to stay simple and give this quilt a plain outer border. Or, you can step-it-up-a-notch with Ruth's new technique of embedding a "Partial Seminole Border" at two opposite corners of the outer border.
With the "Partial Seminole Border" option, there are two different types of mitered corners. As usual, Ruth's excellent instructions takes you each step of the way through how to do both. Complex, made easy!
Ruth uses four colors in the 9-patches: Gold, Brown, Purple, & Green. To make it even more scrappy looking she uses 5 different prints of each of those four colors for the 9-Patch blocks. Or, you can just use the four main colors to make it less scrappy looking.
This quilt is jelly roll friendly. No matter which size quilt you are making, 4 out of the 5 prints for the four colors only requires a single 2½" x wof strip each. A Jelly roll would work perfectly as long as it has at least 4 colors in 5 different prints. As you can see on the "Fabric Requirements" page, additional fabric is needed of only 1 print of each of the four colors as it is used in the 1st border and optional "Partial Seminole Border."
The sample quilt shown is queen size. She made the quilt at the quilt club's weekend retreat. You can choose from four layouts, twin through king, to meet your needs!
The "Floating 9-Patch" pattern is $9.00 retail. It is available from Forever In Stitches, or check with your local quilt shop to see when they will be stocking it.
