Safeguarding is much more than having policies in place.
Do you agree with this vision of safeguarding as a whole-setting culture, rather than simply a collection of policies and procedures?
Effective safeguarding is about
prevention, protection, response, and responsibility.
It requires every adult working with children to understand their role and recognise that safeguarding is part of everyday practice.
Most importantly, safeguarding requires constant reflection on our practice.
We need to pause and ask ourselves
Are our practices truly keeping children safe?
What could we do better?
Are we listening to children and families?
Are we creating an environment where concerns can be identified, shared and acted upon?
Safeguarding is not something we have
; it is something we
practise, reflect on & continuously improve.
Ultimately, protecting children is a shared responsibility, and creating a culture of safety must remain at the heart of quality early childhood education.
