~NOVEMBER 2018 ~
PROVIDING HOPE, HELP AND GUIDANCE TO FAMILIES
LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER'S
AND DEMENTIA
As we express our gratitude,
we must never forget that the highest appreciation
is not to utter words, but to live by them.
~~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

~A Special Thank You!!!~

Joan B. Dawson knows first-hand the challenges that can accompany Alzheimer's and dementia. She comes to A Place to Start with the personal experience of trying to understand her own husband’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Joan recognizes how necessary it is to have a place to share with other caregivers and professionals and has been a great support within our community and within the APTS Family. You can find Joan at APTS lending her ears and sharing her warm smile during our monthly support groups, supplying tasty desserts for luncheons and picnics, walking with her prized babe ("Lady Jane") or championing other facets of life for our community!

We thank you sincerely for all your thoughtfulness, your endless acts of kindness, and dedication to making this a better community!

1st Wednesday of every month at Huntington Common from 10am-11:30am.

Light refreshments are provided. You are also welcome to bring along the person you care for -- the Activity Coordinator will host an activity for them while you are meeting with the group!

Do you have a loved one who wanders?

The Kennebunk Police Department is allowing residents to add a 4x6 photo of their loved ones to their "Community Wanderer" board which is located strictly at the Police Department and will NOT be in public view. This allows the officers to see the faces on a daily basis and take action as soon as possible if needed.

 ~LUNCH AND LEARN~
with Susan the OT!
NOVEMBER 5th, 2018
12:30 PM @ A Place To Start

Join us for lunch and bring your questions!

Susan Raychard, MOTR/L, CDP, PAC Trainer , is a board certified Occupational Therapist and resident of Kennebunk. As an OT, Susan helps older adults age in place, provides education to caregivers, and assists individuals across the lifespan who are recovering from physical illness or experiencing cognitive changes with community mobility,
bathing, dressing, home management, and more. She has more than 20 years experience working with older adults in various settings including home care, skilled rehab, nursing homes and hospitals.
Susan's passion is working with individuals living with various stages of Dementia and Alzheimer's disease and their family members or caregivers. Family members are frequently the primary caregiver for individuals living with dementia and as such are often stressed and overwhelmed. Providing education to caregivers with a focus on looking at the personal strengths and remaining skills of the individual living with dementia can facilitate independence with daily tasks and improved quality of life as well as ease caregiver burden.
Thankful and Grateful........from us to you!!
