A Message from the City Manager
|
Dear Community Member,
I hope you all are enjoying your summer here in Yorba Linda. We have a fun-filled summer planned with a number of events, programs, and activities scheduled for your whole family to enjoy. We are excited to welcome several new eateries and business to town this summer, making it much more convenient to shop and dine in Yorba Linda. For those visiting the new Town Center, you will notice the new furnishings have been delivered, adding seating and tables to the patio and courtyard areas.
In other City news, we are working on installing access ramps throughout the City where none exist. This is part of the City’s transition plan to accommodate the public with disabilities. Last week, two access ramps were installed at the corner of Lakeview Avenue and Rio De Plata.
I'd like to thank you for subscribing to the "Yorba Linda Connection" and taking a proactive approach to staying informed about the latest City news. Please be sure to encourage your friends and family to subscribe as well. I look forward to sharing updates with you throughout the summer.
Best Regards,
Mark Pulone

OCSD to Launch Program to Reunite At-Risk Missing Persons with Family
|
Yorba Linda residents will soon be able to participate in "Take Me Home," a new
regional registry to assist families and caregivers of those who have certain medical conditions, special needs, or disabilities that may make communication with law enforcement difficult.
Take Me Home is a free program that will assist those with dementia, Alzheimer’s, autism, Down syndrome, or any developmental disability or medical condition that might impact an individual’s ability to effectively communicate. The registry, which will be accessible only by law enforcement, will assist Sheriff’s Department personnel by maximizing search efforts and minimizing response time. The registry will allow critical information that could assist in locating the missing individual to be quickly disseminated to law enforcement. Information including emergency contact information, known routines and behaviors, calming techniques and an up-to-date photograph can be submitted to Take Me Home.
In addition, Take Me Home can serve as a tool to help Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) personnel in responding to calls for service. If making contact with a registrant in the field, at a care facility, or at a residence, deputies can better understand how to approach an individual with communication challenges. This program will be available for Yorba Linda residents in the coming month. To learn more, view OCSD's
website
or watch the
program video

requires dogs to be on a leash while in public at all times, including when in parks, on trails, and in neighborhoods.

Drowning Prevention Saves Lives
|
The City's public safety officials continue to urge parents to remain vigilant when children are near water and to never lose sight of our #1 priority: water safety. According to
Orange County Fire Authority
,
drowning is the leading cause of death for children younger than 5. Drowning is a silent killer and happens quickly, so we must be diligent about water safety to prevent these tragedies.
In addition, adults ages 50 and older account for more than half of drownings each year. In adults, drownings are often the result of a medical emergency such as stroke, heart attack, low blood sugar, or dizziness, which can cause a loss of consciousness, leading to drowning. As such, adults are encouraged to use the "buddy system" when swimming. For more tips on water safety, visit the
City website.

Prevent Stormwater Runoff this Summer and Protect Water Quality
|
Stormwater runoff refers to rainwater that falls on streets, parking lots, grass, rooftops, developed land, and other areas that ultimately flows into the ocean through storm drains, picking up pollutants and debris on its was. Although rain is not common during the summer, the City of Yorba Linda encourages you to take steps at your home this summer to prevent the spread of pollutants during the next rain:
- Sweep up all cut grass, trimmings, and leaves and dispose of them as green waste;
- Maintain your car to prevent leaks;
- Follow directions when applying fertilizers and/or pesticides; do not over-apply or irrigate immediately after application;
- If washing your car at home, use biodegradable soap;
- If your pet spends time in the yard, promptly pick up pet waste; and
- Consider volunteering for a beach clean-up event by visiting the California Coastal Commission's website.
Thank you for being an environmental steward and committing to protecting local water quality by preventing stormwater runoff.
