Chris Herren is coming to Manhasset!
On January 28th, nationally known speaker and former NBA player Chris Herren will address our students. Now 11 years in recovery and father of three teens, Herren encourages them to face their pressures without using alcohol or drugs, to be the person their friends and family have known and loved. In the evening, he will present a different message asking parents to support their teens with the same intensity they bring to academic and athletic efforts. For Herren and others with substance use disorders "the first day" was in high school with a red solo cup of Miller Lite. Nobody starts with heroin. 

We encourage parents and grandparents to attend the 7:30 pm presentation as a follow up to the student presentation. We expect a standing room only crowd so please register for your free ticket that must be presented for admission. Click here to register.

These figures are from the 2019 Monitoring the Future national survey of middle and high school students in 8th, 10th and 12th grade. If these statistics concern you join us on February 12th for a presentation on the myths and facts of vaping.

Student Vaping Statistics

  • One in four 12th graders say they vaped nicotine in the past month, along with one in five 10th graders, and nearly one in ten 8th graders.
  • One in five 12th graders reported that they vaped marijuana sometime in the past year, nearly double the year before.

  • When asked why they vape, many teens said they like the flavor, to experiment, for social reasons, or to feel good.

  • Notably, the number of high school seniors who say they vaped because they are “hooked” more than doubled in the last year.
