Community Connections
The New London ISMS continues to collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Milwaukee. A WOOHOO goes out to Mr. Bill Bishop and the staff and members at Associated Bank in New London for donating 135.4 pounds of pop tops to add to our already 2+million pop tops ! The kindness and loving ways that ISMS staff, students and the NL community give to our school is being felt once again! WOW!
Several 6th grade students were given the opportunity to spend time visiting with residents of Washington Center . Students and residents prepared questions, or talking points, to share with each other. The opportunity provided experience for the students in communication and social interaction.
Lincoln School Student Council made tie blankets to donate to the Mission House of Hope in New London.
Kalyna Harder volunteered and received a donation check from Fire on Ice to purchase Easter goodies for the residents of Mission of Hope House , New London.




The students at Lincoln Elementar y practiced good citizenship by spreading their good wishes all the way to Afghanistan . They mailed two boxes full of goodies to a local reserve unit. They wanted to let the brave men and women know that we are thinking about them.

The high school FFA Club ran a Harvest for Hunger campaign. The club created a competition among the 1st hour classes to see who could bring in the most food items. A total of 705 food items with a total weight of 606 pounds were collected for the campaign!



Sixth graders in Mrs. Grossman's Bulldog group decorated Easter bags for the Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.

Even as rain threatened their operation, NLHS Student Council went through Hatten Park and along the river walk/lot across from the Wolf River Vet Clinic to clean up litter in celebration of Earth Day . This idea was originally proposed by Grant Madsen and the council decided to honor his memory by making his vision a reality.
NLHS seniors prepared their portfolios and utilized their interview skills for their exit interviews. This is a requirement for all seniors prior to graduation. Thank you community member interviewers !
Elementary
Lincoln School kindergarten students learned about forces and motion. Students investigated how pushes can change the speed and direction of falling objects. Students designed and tested a solution to protect their town from falling rocks.
4K students at Sugar Bush prepared for their Dino-Mite literacy night by studying dinosaurs. Students learned how fossils are made using toy dinosaurs and Play-Doh, they predicted how long it would take for their classroom dinosaur egg to hatch (guesses ranged from 6 days - 100 years), and they used dinosaurs as life models for their artwork and books.
Kindergarten students in Mrs. Bressler's class at Sugar Bush Elementary enjoyed a theatrical production of Pete the Cat at the Grand Opera House in Oshkosh earlier this month.
Second graders at Readfield learned about traits of Wisconsin birds and how certain birds like to eat. They worked to construct bird feeders which would attract the birds they are interested in.
Secondary
A few 5th grade band and choir students finished out the month by performing at all four elementary schools. They were excited to go back to visit old friends and teachers, as well as show their amazing growth in music over the last school year!
Fifth grade students put together the first ever "Inquiry Museum!" Each student had about three weeks to dive into nonfiction research on a topic of their choice. They focused on collecting information from primary sources. Then they were able to showcase their research to parents and other community members. The inquiry museum was held in the NLMS commons areas.
Sixth grade students worked in groups to practice solving problems by finding volume and surface area in multiple ways. Their strategies included drawing the shape, using a formula, labeling parts, and showing how they used math to solve the problem. The groups then shared their solutions.
The Middle School Fuel Up to Play 60 team hosted a cheese taste testing. Students were invited to sample provolone, Swiss, and pepper jack cheese. Thank you to the Wisconsin Dairy Council for providing the kit!

The Sharing Table leftovers at the Intermediate/Middle School are being put to great use by students that are still hungry after lunch or a few hours later.

On the left is a full basket of fruit (apples and bananas) at 12:30; the right side picture is at 2:30 and by 3:20 the basket was empty! Good food, being put to good use.  💚 🍎
NLHS DECA True Beauty program held their annual Pen Pal Meet Up Event . There were thirty-five 5th and 6th graders and thirty-five high school students in attendance. They have been writing with each other throughout the school year and were so excited to finally meet their pen pal. The girls made crafts, played games, and created memories with each other!
Many 6th grade middle school students earned a trip to Vertical Velocity in Appleton!
Fifth graders participated in the annual Arbor Day Celebration with the City of New London. Students participated in a poster contest with the six winners receiving a gift card to Wolfrath's Nursery to purchase a tree for their own home. To end the celebration, students went to Hatten Park to help plant two new trees properly! 
NLHS Math League students traveled to UWSP to compete for the final competition of the year for the Central Wisconsin Math League.
Abigail Gillespie and Ethan Barnick earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors and were awarded a medal at the state math meet.





Will Hoover's fourth and final trip to the National Geographic State Level Geography Bee yielded an awesome demonstration of his keen knowledge and understanding of world geography.
NLHS students in Mrs. Doran‘s human body systems class viewed rabbit muscle cells and investigated how they contract. They had to tease the muscle fibers apart to locate an individual fiber and then perform different tests to see how much they contracted.
Working countless hours for Fire on Ice in Weyauwega, National Honor Society student, Kalyna Harder , received a donation check from the organizers of Fire on Ice to be given to the National Honor Society club. This donation was used to purchase Bulldog apparel to support the NLHS Caring Closet . Thank you!!!
NLHS Culture club students wore kindness t-shirts in support of Autism month.
NLHS students in Mrs. Jill Spencer's class made sushi ! Ms. Ann Schnyder, program support teacher, led the activity that offered a visual, tactile, and taste experience for everyone! Students gave a thumbs up to the experience.
John Deere, International, Farmall and Versatile tractors graced the NLHS parking lot as students brought their tractors to school. Even Mrs. Schulz got in on the action!
NLHS students Brett Schultz and Bobby Kulinski took gold at the Special Olympics state basketball tournament . This was their first trip to state!!! Well done gentlemen!

 NLHS students tried out the interactive whiteboard in the HS library. Any notes written on this interactive whiteboard get sent digitally to the user/s in real time! This technology is great for collaboration and sharing information. 
Fourteen NLHS students competed at the NWTC Tech Challenge . Pictured are 9 of the award winners and a few of their projects.



NLHS student Kylah Hoeck researched about phobias for her project in the School of Enterprise Marketing. She found out that behavioral therapy commonly uses virtual reality. To test out if using Virtual Reality would actually help our phobias, she set up an activity for her classmates to use virtual reality goggles and see first hand what facing their fears may be like.
Congratulations to the NLHS 2019 Prom Court ! Prom 2019, "This Magic Moment", will take place on Saturday, May 4, from 7-11PM at NLHS.
It's time to gather your coins NLHS students and families as the BEST club has organized a school-wide penny war to help raise money to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. If the entire school raises over $300, the winning class will get to pick Mr. Yerkey's outfit for the day! See details below.
A group of 40 NLHS Spanish students had their passports stamped and headed for Spain! They toured Madrid for four days and Barcelona for four days. They stayed with host families. They walked almost 65 miles on the trip and made many memories.
District

District Administrator Dennis Krueger, along with the Board of Education, recognized Board members Virginia Schlais and Chris Martinson for their years of service to the Board of Education. Virginia Schlais served on the Board of Education for 21 years, and Chris Martinson served on the Board of Education for 3 years. Thank you for your time, dedication and service to the School District of New London!


Congratulations to Ann Schnyder , program support teacher for the School District of New London, on receiving the Wisconsin Council of Administrators of Special Services (WCASS) Region VI Making a Difference Award . Ms. Schnyder was recognized for going above and beyond in her daily tasks to support students, staff members, and families in New London.

The Instructional Resource Coaches / Library Media Specialists of SDNL attended the Wisconsin Educational Media & Technology Association conference. They explored and gathered resources to help provide learning experiences that prepare our students to flourish in an information-rich world.
