For the first time ever, SECORE International is hosting a weekend adventure that combines science, engineering, and diving for an experience like no other. We are reaching out to you to personally invite you to see first-hand why SECORE is the global leader in innovative coral restoration tools and techniques, and critical work that your support has made possible.
Founder and Executive Director Dr. Dirk Petersen and Director of Research Dr. Margaret Miller, along with SECORE Board Member and author of Wild Miami Fernando Bretos, will be leading a fascinating three-day adventure that includes an exclusive tour of SECORE's groundbreaking work in collaboration with the University of Miami at the Frost Museum of Science, two dives led by Dirk, Margaret, and Fernando to see SECORE's outplanted substrates and baby corals, and a behind-the-scenes look at ReeFloida and coral husbandry efforts at the Batchelor Environmental Center. SECORE integrates science and engineering, refines coral restoration methodologies using coral breeding, and creates novel tools that allow for the implementation of large-scale global coral restoration. April 21: arrive, check-in to the hotel of your choice (please contact us for recommendations), get organized and relax! Join us at 6 PM at Copal Rooftop Bar & Restaurant for cocktails and dinner with Dirk, Margaret and Fernando and preview of Saturday activities
April 22: Meet at 8 AM at Diver's Paradise, Key Biscayne (rental equipment available) for two morning boat dives to SECORE outplanting sites with Dirk, Margaret, and Fernando. We will reconvene at 4 PM at the Frost Museum for an exclusive back-of-house tour led by our museum partners, featuring a presentation about the science behind our collaborative work, followed by 6:30 PM cocktails and dinner at Bunbury Miami with the SECORE team and a preview of Sunday activities.
April 23: Meet at the Batchelor Environmental Center at 11 AM to learn more about innovations in coral husbandry as SECORE and others race against the clock to save and restore these invaluable ecosystems. Weekend events concludes at 1 PM and depart for home
