We are excited to announce a new challenge for our trainers, in honor of National Family Caregiver Month.
Congratulations to Andi Graham - our Trainer of the Quarter!
As owner and general manager of Legacy Home Care in Las Vegas, Andi has a passion for providing her clients with quality companionship and in-home care.
Since October 2016, Legacy has used the REST program to train all paid caregivers. "We use REST as an additional resource to help our staff get to know our clients, and better understand their medical situations," Andi said.
Andi appreciates the additional credentials that REST provides. "It shows we go above and beyond the state's requirement to provide knowledgeable supervisors and caregivers," she said. "We are very proud to be associated with such a great organization. In fact, our franchise coach is so excited about the program, she's looking at using REST in her state."
The Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Inc
received funding for its Respite Care Program, from the State of Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division and Fund for a Healthy Nevada. The program serves caregivers of seniors and adults with disabilities, and is part of RSVP's Independent Living Program, which helps low-income homebound seniors, veterans and caregivers remain independent and in their own homes for as long as possible. A Companion course will take place on Sept. 19, through
, a non-profit organization based in Fairmont, whose mission is to help the aging population lead healthy and active lives. Among the services CREST provides: support groups, healthy aging classes, individual counseling, transportation, and light housework.

2017 New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition (NYSCRC) Conference
- themed "Understanding and Effectively Engaging Caregivers" - will take place
on Oct. 2-3, in Albany.
During the conference
we will make a presentation on REST's latest research findings, and how REST is making a positive impact across the nation. The event
also will include an interactive caregiver simulation.

Five individuals completed the REST Essentials class on Aug. 3-4

. The social day program has volunteers ranging in age, from 12 to 75. Additional REST Essentials and Companion class offerings are scheduled this month.
UPCAP will conduct two Companion trainings this month

St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Modesto
, held a Companion course on Aug. 12
, training 17 individuals to provide respite care to the growing number of parishioners who need help at home.
Caregiver Action Network (CAN) is recruiting trainers to attend its Lunch & Learn workshops
, and encouraging them to incorporate the information they learn into their existing programs. Workshops will take place on Sept. 9, at the UAMS Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging, Little Rock, Ark., as well as on Oct. 14, in Fort Wayne, Ind. Four additional workshops will take place in Texas and New York, throughout 2017 and 2018. Entitled Family Caregivers Matter: Shared Decision Making for Family Caregivers, the events will include such topics as caregiving tools, creating patient and family centered goals, and shared decision-making. A Companion course will take place through HEARTful Caregivers Inc.
The mission of this organization is to provide caregivers of older adults in the Pikes Peak region with information about health and education opportunities, assistance, resources and training, thereby supporting them in their caregiving tasks.

National Lifespan Respite Conference,
Alabama Lifespan Respite
will present components of creating and implementing a Caregiver Simulation,
allowing attendees to see firsthand the daily struggles caregivers and care recipients face, and how respite can make a positive impact.
The Alzheimer's Foundation of America has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Lee-Russell Aging Foundation
, enabling it to provide respite care for more caregivers, while also providing case management, education, counseling, and information and assistance. Read the

has begun to recruit volunteers to assist caregivers through their respite program, and will hold a Companion course this fall.
Registration is open for a Train-the-Trainer course, taking place on Oct. 25-26, in Lander
Tennessee Respite Coalition
received a grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation
to provide episodic respite for those with paralysis. The Coalition will use the REST Essentials online course to train respite providers, unless they already have had formal respite training.
