New York
Sixteen individuals completed the REST Essentials course on Sept. 9,  at the Broome County Library in Binghamton, through the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition.
Six new volunteers attended the REST Essentials course on Sept. 23,  at Baber AME Church, Rochester.
Three Trainers completed the REST Master Training course on Oct. 4-5, in Albany .  They can now conduct the two-day Train-the-Trainer course and mobilize REST training throughout their communities. Click to learn more.
A total of 17 individuals completed two Train-the-Trainer courses last month , on Sept. 7-8, at Town Square for Aging, Getzville, and on Sept. 13-14, at Jewish Family Services of Ulster County - through the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition (NYSCRC).
NYSCRC  will hold a Train-the-Trainer course on Oct. 16-17, at Community Connections of Franklin County, Malone. Learn more.
Seven individuals attended REST Essentials courses, on Sept. 23 and Sept. 29 , at Hearts and Hands, Getzville. Hearts and Hands plans to launch an in-home volunteer respite program, serving caregivers of those affected by dementia, in January 2018.
We are looking forward to presenting REST's latest research findings  during the 2017 National Lifespan Respite Conference, which takes place Oct. 11-13, in Huntsville.
During the Lifespan Respite Conference, we will present two new awards to REST states: the Forgotten Caregiver Award  and the Vision Award. They will be presented at the REST Trainer reception on Oct. 12. Stop by the REST Exhibit table to pick up a VIP REST entry ticket. See the invitation.

A Train-the-Trainer course will take place on Nov. 2-3, in Reno, through Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division. See details
Nevada Rural Counties RSVP will host a Companion class on Nov. 16, at the Gold Dust West Hotel, Carson City.

Twelve individuals attended a Companion course on Sept. 27, at Nevada Senior Services, Las Vegas.

Congratulations to Minnesota for winning the Pacesetter Prize from the SCAN Foundation  for offering family caregivers services and supports, including respite care. Learn more.

To commemorate National Family Caregivers Month, the Minnesota Department of Human Services will hold a Train-the-Trainer event on Nov. 15-16, and a Companion course on Nov. 17, in St. Paul.

Three new volunteers participated in a Companion course, on Sept. 19, through CREST, Fairmont. The mission of CREST is to provide volunteer assistance to allow individuals and families to maintain their independence, dignity and quality of life. In addition to offering respite care, CREST provides monthly caregiver support meetings, home repair, transportation, and a wide array of other care services.
LeadingAge Minnesota has an affordable table-top display opportunity available on Oct. 13 , offering organizations that provide products or services to the adult day services industry the opportunity to visit with 100 key adult day site leaders. The display will take place during the LeadingAge Minnesota's Adult Day Conference, on Oct. 13 and 14, at the Minnesota Masonic Heritage Center, Bloomington. Learn more.

The Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) conducted a Companion course on Sept. 21 and 22, in Houghton, training five individuals.
Three Companion courses will take place this month through UPCAP :  on Oct. 20 and 27, at Negaunee Senior Citizens Center, Negaunee, on Oct. 23 and 25at Copper Country Mental Health Institute, Houghton, and on Oct. 25 and 26, at Baraga County Hospital, L'Anse.
Unicorn Children's Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for the REST Train-the-Trainer event, taking place Jan. 9-10 , at Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County, in Boynton Beach. The Foundation, headquartered in Boca Raton, is an international non-profit organization dedicated to children and young adults with developmental, communication, and learning disorders through education, awareness, and research, so that they have every opportunity to lead productive and fulfilling lives.  More information about the training event here
REST will exhibit at the Alzheimer's Association's Third Annual Research Symposium on Nov. 2 , at the Swissotel Chicago. Learn more and register here 
REST staff will exhibit and offer the REST Essentials course during the second annual National Caregiving Conference, Nov. 10-11 , at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare, Chicago. The conference - themed "Our Boldest Hours: Before. During. After." - will draw caregivers, professionals, and others interested in caregiving issues. Register for the event here
Washington, D.C.
Kadamba Tree Foundation will host a Companion course on Oct. 18, through the D.C. Office on Aging. Kadamba Tree Foundation  supports family caregivers  through classes and workshops, one-to-one guidance and customized stress-management programs. National Family Caregivers Month  is soon approaching with the theme, "Caregiving Around the Clock."  Caregiver Action Network (CAN) will spearhead the commemoration, which takes place each November. Learn more.
CAN is recruiting trainers to attend its Lunch & Learn workshops , and encouraging them to incorporate the information they learn into their existing programs. A workshop will take place on Oct. 14, in Fort Wayne, Ind., with four additional workshops planned in Texas and New York in 2018. Entitled Family Caregivers Matter: Shared Decision Making for Family Caregivers, the events will include such topics as caregiving tools, creating patient and family centered goals, and shared decision-making. A Companion course will take place on Oct. 20 , in Lake Havasu City, through Western Arizona Council of Governments.
The Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability  invites seniors, caregivers and healthcare professionals from 14 counties across the region to attend the 16th Annual Upper Cumberland Senior Expo on Oct. 19, at Hyder-Burks Agricultural Pavilion, Cookeville.  Participants will have the opportunity to gather resources from vendors, receive door prizes, and participate in hands-on educational activities.
