INITIATIVES AND SUCCESSES
The breast cancer workgroup is continuing its efforts to implement comprehensive breast cancer education programs to increase breast cancer screenings for residents in public housing.
A breast cancer education session was held at the housing authority in Beaufort County. The event experienced a great turnout with over 30 women in attendance. There will be a mobile mammography unit held at the Housing Authority of the City of Darlington on Thursday, June 19
from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We are currently working with the South Carolina Regional Housing Authority No. 3 to plan another breast cancer education event for June 20
in Orangeburg, SC. The Alliance will also meet with the Greenwood Housing Authority in June to plan a breast cancer education session.
The Housing Authority Project is active in the following counties: Beaufort, Chester, Darlington, Greenwood, Orangeburg, and Union
The cervical cancer workgroup continues to promote the social media campaign,
HPV Vaccination NOW: This is Our Moment.
The workgroup is recruiting 30 parents who are active social media users and support the HPV vaccination. Participants will be invited to join a private Facebook group, receive bi-weekly emails with facts about HPV vaccination, and attend online webinars about HPV vaccination.

Dr. Amy Messersmith at Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy developed a training curriculum for student pharmacists to guide education and discussion about HPV and its vaccine. A second HPV Vaccination training is set to take place in fall 2019. Many student have already expressed interest in attending.
Lastly, the workgroup has developed a grant application for an HPV project. The goal of this project is to increase the HPV vaccination completion rates among adolescents aged 11 to 12 in South Carolina. For questions or more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Alliance hosted the Corporate Wellness Evidence Academy on May 21st in Columbia, SC. The academy included topics on wellbeing as its own incentive, implementing evidence-based health promotions into the workplace, engaging employees at all levels in wellness initiatives, and advancing health equity through workplace initiatives. Also, as a follow up to the Corporate Wellness Evidence Academy, all attendees will be invited to participate in an upcoming Colorectal Cancer Awareness Campaign.
Dr. Jan Eberth (University of South Carolina) and Dr. Anthony Weaver (University of Kentucky) will present at South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians Summer Break Away in June 2019. Their joint presentation will address lung cancer epidemiology, lung cancer risk factors (nationally and in SC), lung cancer screening guidelines, and screening costs/insurance reimbursement.

The prostate cancer workgroup hosted a prostate education workshop on April 27
in Florence, SC. The workshop included topics on the importance of prostate health and nutrition, the story of a prostate cancer survivor, and the opportunity to talk with a health care provider. The workshop was very informative and raised great discussion. The prostate cancer workgroup is in the process of planning another prostate education workshop in Hartsville, SC.
The Alliance is partnering with several churches through our Faith-based Initiative to host a prostate health forum on June 22

The survivorship workgroup hosted the Survivorship Evidence Academy on May 17th. The workshop included topics on wellness and life after treatment, sexual health, making the transition back to a primary care physician, and a survivor panel. The speakers included
