From the Pastor...

Grace and peace to you, FPC!

Every Halloween, I think of this old Scottish prayer: “From ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggedy beasties and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us!”

I actually don’t think we’ve got too much to worry about when it comes to creatures and critters of “spooky season,” but our good Lord has delivered us from the terrors of sin, evil, and death. We’ll celebrate that truth on Sunday as we observe All Saints’ Day.

During worship, the WOW (Worship Our Way) Choir will sing about the “fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23) by which God’s saints, God’s holy people, can be known. During our prayers, we’ll thank God for saints whom we’ve known and still love. And we’ll celebrate the Lord’s Supper, remembering we are united with all God’s people past, present, and future.

As part of living out our calling to be saints, we give money to support mission work. November’s Mission of the Month is the Springfield School District Turkey Fund, which provides food and financial assistance to more than one hundred local families. Your generous donations help make a powerful difference.

See you on Sunday, and SDG (Solo Deo Gloria)!

NOVEMBER MISSION OF THE MONTH

Our November Mission of the Month is the Springfield School District Turkey Fund. Started 45 years ago by local school administrators, the Turkey Fund began by providing holiday food baskets to about 10 families. Over the years, it has grown to serve more than 100 families in Springfield and Morton. Although best known for its holiday food distribution, the Turkey Fund helps families throughout the year. Assistance includes help with utility bills, food insecurity, and gift cards for everyday necessities. The fund has also expanded its efforts to help families with transportation and meal expenses related to cancer treatment. Each December, volunteers deliver turkeys, bread, and grocery gift cards to local families who could use a little extra help during the holiday season. Please consider contributing to November's Mission of the Month. Your donations will go directly toward helping families in our own community.
