WQED Education Gets Kids to “Warm Up With WQED”
in STEM pilot program
This month, WQED launched "Warm Up With WQED," a pilot project from WQED Education that focuses on STEM and sharing, and connects creative kids with those who can use what they make.

WQED Education has partnered with local libraries that are part of its Inquire Within initiative and with area Girl Scout troops for this program. WQED provides grab-and-go bags with supplies and instructions to make two no-sew scarves to local children. The idea is that the children can make one scarf to keep or give to a loved one and leave the other scarf someplace in the community where a person in need can take it.

Libraries and the Girl Scout troops can make arrangements with locations in their community to place the scarves or have them collected and hung in one centralized location for people to take as needed.

Kids are encouraged to send photos of their completed creations or works in progress (like this one!) to WQED and share in their community.
Pennsylvania PBS celebrates Black History Month
To celebrate Black History Month, Pennsylvania PBS stations offered opportunities to explore the roots of African American religion, celebrate groundbreaking achievements in the arts, and remind us of the struggles endured as well as those persisting to this day.

Throughout the month of February, these special programs were built into the Learning At Home programming block. With support materials from PBS Learning Media, students have access to a multimedia experience gateway to explore America’s diverse history.

Fill Pennsylvania with Love
Transforming Health is a collaborative project led by WITF to educate the residents of Central Pennsylvania about the importance of maintaining good health through individual and collective action. The latest project in Transforming Health’s “Here With You” campaign is called “Fill PA With Love.”

As social distancing recommendations and cold weather require Pennsylvanians to see less of their loved ones, Transforming Health partners are providing resources to promote important and meaningful acts of kindness.

Together, WITF, Capital BlueCross and WellSpan Health are offering free postcards as part of the
“Fill PA With Love” cards of caring initiative. Anyone can request a postcard collection to write messages of encouragement to send to people that may feel alone this season.

“Our community needs our love now more than ever,” said Cara Williams Fry, WITF's senior vice president of content. “We’re asking our neighbors to help fight the winter blues and pandemic isolation by sending someone inspiring words of comfort and support. Together, we can fill Pennsylvania with love.”

Throughout the campaign, a map on the website tracks where the cards are sent. You can request a blank postcard collection to send here.
