Horizons Speaker Video Series: Can YOU Help?
The Horizons middle school career and development program has recently pivoted to an in-person classroom model, following the guidelines of the district to bring the students back to the building 5 days a week. The program is running similarly to our traditional Horizons Clubs, yet in an effort to keep all students and staff safe, we are bringing in guest career speakers via zoom or as a prerecorded presentation.

We are looking for zoom speakers to interact with the students in April and May. WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO BE A PART OF THIS!  Please check-out our sign-up link below for available schools and times.

We are also looking to expand our career speaker video library. It is a fast, easy process to film a presentation for us to share with the students. You can film on your own time, from home or work, using your phone. The presentations can be informal and cover your career and education story, as well as some words of advice. You can watch a sample video by CLICKING HERE.

Join us for a 5K Race and Fun Walk at Peoria Stadium!
Exciting efforts are being made to revitalize an important piece of Peoria’s history – the Peoria Stadium. This iconic sports stadium has a history of over 125 years of recreational activity in the heart of our city. The first of many new activities planned for the stadium grounds in 2021 is a 5K road race called the “Race to Save Our Stadium”. This race will be held on April 10th and will demonstrate both the ability for hosting running races at the stadium and to generate funds for incremental improvements to the walking/running path within the complex. Registration is now opened for both the 5K or a 1 mile fun walk. Be sure to sign up today!

This event is sponsored by the PPS Foundation, Peoria Federation of Teachers, Montefusco HVAC, Inc and Carpet Weavers. Thank you so much!

PPS Students are Back in the Classroom!
We are so happy to have students safely back in the classroom! PPS Foundation President, Cindy Morris, joined Superintendent Dr. Kherat in visiting all the schools in the district on March 1st. It was wonderful to see the excitement that staff and students had to be back in person.
PPS Foundation SHERO of the Month:
Ms. Shar’Ron Ford
Congratulations to Ms. Shar'Ron Ford from Manual High School for receiving the PPS Foundation's SHERO of the month for March!

It has been said the “True leadership must be for the benefit of the followers, not to enrich the leaders.” Exemplifying the mission of the PPS Foundation to work for the enrichment of the students, this passion is the hallmark of the work done by Ms. Ford each day at Manual High School.

She takes her role as the front desk gatekeeper seriously, supporting the RAMly kids each day by recording their comings and goings, being a cheerleader for them in their achievements, and supporting them in their concerns. She also has gone above and beyond to support the Foundation with our work by identifying needs of the students, helping with coordination of our career speakers and guests to Manual, and following up on community and alumni support to the school. She really is a “Shero”, and we appreciate all she does.

Thank You and Congratulations Ms. Ford!
Check Out Buzz Chats: a PPS Foundation Video Series!
Every month we will be connecting with different members of our community to talk about our public schools and how they interact with current events in Peoria.

On March 4th, we caught up with Manual High School Alum, Dr. Marquita Furness Davis, who is the Deputy Director for Early Learning at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Check out the video below!

Buzz Chats is held on select Thursdays at 6:30 PM and can be viewed via our Facebook page. The conversations are both fun and informative. Be sure to check out our next one on March 18th with Demario Boone and Derrick Booth!

Another Way to Support the PPS Foundation
Little gifts can be very meaningful. For a $25 donation, you can gift a set of note cards to family and friends to show them how much they are appreciated. Each set contains six note cards (plus envelopes) with exclusive artwork created by a PPS student. We currently have five different sets of note cards available. Plus, your donation will go towards our Right Now Fund which is used for where Peoria Public Schools needs it the most.
Hy-Vee on Sheridan:
an Amazing Partner and Supporter!
One of the big challenges our community is facing during this time is making sure families in need have enough food to eat. The PPS Foundation would like to send a HUGE thank you to Hy-Vee on Sheridan for working with us to provide food and grocery deliveries to PPS families most at risk. We are truly in awe at the amount of support they have provided. Thank you for being so wonderful to work with, Hy-Vee!
