J oin the Park Rangers April 27 to restore native plant communities
The Allegheny County Park Rangers have launched a volunteer Park Steward program to help remove invasive species from our nine parks. This is an awesome opportunity to join other park lovers who want to take an active role in protecting the parks from this increasing threat to your parks' healthy ecology, as noted in the Ecological Assessments ACPF has conducted in Boyce, South, Settlers Cabin and Hartwood Acres Parks. Visit our website to read more about the impact these non-native plants are having on those parks.
Sign up for the kick-off at the North Park Ranch House on Saturday, April 27 from 9-noon. Rangers will provide gloves, tools, safety glasses and will have extra water on hand. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.
The program is free but registration is recommended. Click HERE!

If it's April, it's time for Chimney Swifts to make their way back to our region. Like many of us, Chimney Swifts like warm weather. They return to find insects and their acrobatic dances in the sky delight those who are able to watch them.
The Allegheny County Parks Foundation, with our partners at the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, installed 100 Chimney Swift habitat towers in the nine Allegheny County Parks to give these helpful birds places to roost.
When they do return to our region, which could be around the third week in April, you might catch a sighting at the chimney of the Harrison Hills Environmental Center and at the mansion's chimney at Hartwood Acres Park. Park visitors reported they were sighted at both locations last year.

The event is open to the public. There is no admission charge to the plant sale, which takes place at Shady Side Academy on April 27 from 8 am to 4 p.m. There is a charge to attend the lectures. For more information, click HERE!
