New Mass Schedule Begins Next Week

We are making changes to our weekend Mass schedule to better serve our parish community and foster a stronger sense of unity in worship. This new schedule reduces the number of weekend Masses from five to four and adjusts the times to create a more consistent experience throughout the year. Beginning next weekend, our new schedule will be: Saturday: 4:30 PM; Sunday: 8 AM, 10 AM, & 4:30 PM (year-round)

Why the Change?

After prayerful consideration and consultation with parish leadership, I have made the decision to reduce our weekend Mass schedule. Attendance data gathered since August shows that our current five Masses are not fully utilized, with some liturgies drawing significantly fewer worshipers. By offering four well-attended Masses, we can create a more vibrant and communal worship experience, where our parish family can come together to celebrate the Eucharist with greater unity.

Worshiping together as a community is at the heart of our faith. The Mass is not only a personal encounter with Christ but also a shared celebration that strengthens our bonds as a parish. A schedule of four Masses allows us to engage more intentionally with the resources we have, which primarily includes clergy, staff, and liturgical ministers. Our goal is to continue offering reverent, well-prepared liturgies while also being more present to the broader needs of the parish, including Christian formation, pastoral care, and community engagement.

We are excited about this opportunity to grow as a parish! If you have questions about the new schedule, please do not hesitate to reach out to the parish office. We invite you to join us at one of our weekend Masses and to continue building our parish as a place of faith, fellowship, and love of God and neighbor.

In Christ,

There will be three days of preparation prior to the day. Please join us each day at daily Mass for this preparation. Information and enthronement materials are available at welcomehisheart.com.

Spotlight: Buildings, Grounds, and Staff

With the Festival here this weekend, St. John Vianney's buildings and grounds take "center stage" (pun intended).

We have a large campus here at SJV that we call home, and that allows us to put on such a large Festival. There are parishes in our own area that do not have the space to hold such an event. We are blessed to be able to host a community event that is a critical fundraiser and FUN-raiser for SJV. If you have been by the church this week, you’ve seen crews hard at work transforming our grounds to host the Festival.

We do have a beautiful campus, indeed, and there are practical costs to maintaining it. While the Festival largely takes place in the parking lot, we have a lot of green space (hopefully that remains the case after all the rain this week!), a large church, and a large school that needs constant (practical) maintenance. Properly maintained grounds create a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere for parishioners and guests alike. The grounds outside and the facilities inside provide a physical representation of the quality of Masses, education, faith, and service that people enjoy here at SJV, especially when we are welcoming so many guests to SJV over the course of the Festival!

Maintaining proper facilities is not just for aesthetics, however. It is also for safety. SJV is not able to provide meaningful services to others if our facilities are in disarray or unsafe. SJV is stewarding your financial gifts in responsible ways, too, by carefully vetting vendors. For example, we have negotiated favorable contracts, and it is a “deal” that it costs about $750 each time the parking lot is salted! It is not uncommon for snow removal to cost around $2,000 or more after a winter storm.

In fact, buildings, grounds, and staff constitute an overwhelming majority of the expenses at SJV. There are practical costs to running a church and school of our size, and we thank you for helping us to provide a beautiful and safe environment and offer the proper service for parishioners and guests alike. We hope you’re able to join us this weekend to celebrate the start of summer & celebrate SJV!
