Dear Election Official,
Next week is the Secretary of State's Election Law Seminar for County Election Officials, and if you're like us, you're busy preparing for a week's worth of networking and learning. The Voting Rights Team at Disability Rights Texas is excited about the opportunity to meet and visit with you face-to-face.
If you not already aware of who we are, Disability Rights Texas is the federally designated and funded protection and advocacy agency (P&A) in the state of Texas. The role of the P&A in each state is to protect people with disabilities from discrimination that limits their full and equal participation in society.
The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 provides funds to each state's P&A to ensure the full participation in the electoral process for individuals with disabilities, including registering to vote, casting a vote, and accessing polling places.
To achieve this objective, our agency provides free training and technical support to county election officials, individuals with disabilities, and policy makers. Basically, we are here to help your county in the goal of ensuring everyone has access to voting.
With the uniform elections coming in November, and the primaries occurring in March 2016, we know you are busy preparing your polling places and may have some questions regarding elections and how to best serve voters with disabilities. Please feel free to stop by our table at the seminar. We will have many resources available and can discuss the option of coming to your county to train poll workers or inspect your polling site for accessibility.
Thank you for all the hard work you have done for your county. It is truly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you next week.
