Packet Pick-up Details:

We have two remaining early packet pick-up locations, in addition to event morning. Stop by one of these locations to pick up your bib and headband.

Tuesday, Sept 17 (4pm to 7pm):

Thursday, Sept 19 (5pm to 8pm):

Race Day Packet Pick-up:
6:40 to 7:25am @ start/ finish area.

Yes, someone else can pick up your packet for you at any of these times/ locations. We recommend bringing a copy of their confirmation email, but it is not required. Packets will not be available at any of these locations outside of these times.
Wave Information:

Wave times and numbers are below. Remember, there are no assigned waves. You are free to start with the pace group that is right for you.

Waves will be spaced roughly one minute apart. The first wave will start at 7:30am and then every minute after that, we'll send out the next one. We will announce "next waves up," too, so just listen up and look for a pacer holding the sign of your wave to help guide you to the correct start time.

7:31- Wave #2- 8:30

7:32- Wave #3- 9:00

7:33- Wave #4- 9:30

7:34- Wave #5- 10:00

7:37- Wave #8- 11:30

7:38- Wave #9- 12:00, 12:30

7:39- Wave #10- 13:00+
Other Rules and Information:

  • Parking: The parking lot is one, long street and the furthest space from the Event HQ is over 3/4 of a mile away. The later you arrive, the further you'll have to walk from your car, so plan accordingly.

  • Gear check will be on site. You can utilize any bag you like and you'll be able to affix a piece of tape with your bib number on it at the Gear Check tent. To retrieve your bag, you'll need to show your matching bib number. Please do not check any large bags or anything of high value. We are not responsible for lost or damaged items.


  • When running, please stay on the right side of the path at all times. VERY IMPORTANT. As with all events on the forest preserve path, the path is still open to the public and there will be other runners, walkers, cyclists, and path users out and about that morning. Please share the road and be polite, and they will be as well.

  • If you see any hazards on the path, be sure to shout it out so that those running behind you are aware.

  • There are multiple forest preserve bathroom houses on the path for you to use. Some are right on the path, some are just off of it. If you need to know the location of the closest bathroom, ask your pace group leader. They are all very knowledgeable about the path.

  • Aid stations are stocked at Gatorade and water. If you need medical assistance at any time, head to the neatest aid station and alert the volunteers there.

  • Aid stations will also have trash cans available for you to use. PLEASE DO NOT THROW ANY TRASH ON THE GROUND! Keep our planet and forest preserve as clean as possible.

  • For anyone looking to run less than twenty miles, we will have turn around spots for 18 and 16 miles marked with signs. You are free to turn around at any time. (Please note that 18 and 16 mile turnaround points are approximate.)

  • The course will remain open based on a 15:00 pace per mile finishing time and the aid station leaders will be breaking down their tables based on that timeline. If you feel you may not finish within that time range, you are free to start early, but note that if you do, some of the first aid stations may not have been completely set up yet.

  • After the run is over, feel free to sit around the site and enjoy our picnic in the park with music, food, and friends. We will have hotdogs for all runners and a handful of veggie dogs for those that request them.

Medical Director's Note:

Welcome Runners to the Chicago Athlete 20 Miler prepping you for the Chicago Marathon or any other fall marathon you are planning to run. I am Dr. Michael P. Davenport and I direct a Sports Performance Facility called RUNNING IRON PERFORMANCE in Arlington Heights that treats running injuries and assists with Corrective Rehab and Performance with an emphasis on Integration with Nutrition and Sports Performance Recovery. I will be out on the course and will have a tent set up near the start/finish area.  

You have prepared up to this point with some shorter runs and to most of you this will be the longest run you do prior to the Marathon. My strongest suggestion to you is to HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE! However, do not forget to drink your electrolytes. You can get these from your sports drinks or from your intake of fruit and veggies! If race day is warm, be sure to drink at every aid station. If it is a cool day and you have hydrated well during your long warm runs, you may be able to not have to drink as much. If you do get pretty warm or hot, be sure to douse you head with a cup of water at the aid station. This will cool you down instantly! Be sure to dress appropriately for the temperatures. My guess is it will be a warm and humid day. Stay cool. We will have plenty of water and electrolytes out on the course. Feel free to contact me with any questions prior to this event and after. We are offering special recovery Normatec session at our office from now until a week after the Marathon. Please call to schedule your appointment when you can. Thank you and good luck on your run and in your marathon!

We are in need of just a few more volunteers to staff one of the aid stations. This is a great opportunity to cheer on runners and help them with their marathon dreams. All volunteers get access to our post-run picnic. Flexible hours.
